Candidates Night
The first School Board Can
didates Night of the 1971 election
campaign is scheduled for 8:30
PM, Thursday. May I3th, in the
Little Theatre of Freeport High
School. Mr. Joseph McAndrews,
Rev. S. Frank Emmanuel, and
Jomar Rand, all of whom have
announced their candidacies, will
address the meeting and answer
questions from the audience.
Mrs. Jacques Nevard,
President of Citizens' Committee,
stated that the meeting
will be conducted by an impartial
moderator from outside the
school district. She urged all
residents of the Freeport school
district to attend this important
meeting.
"In Uie past," Mrs. Nevard
said, "a few candidates nights
have been crowded togeUier in
the two weeks prior to an election,
limiting the opportunity of
residents to see the candidates.
By starting earlier, this year, it is

to give many more Frecporters
the opportunity to find out what
the school board candidates
think, and where they stand on
the important issues."
Joan Munoz Young has announced her decision to run
for the seat on the Freeport School Board presently

Mother of the Year

Bessie Valasiadis as Mother of
the Year. Mrs. Valasiadis was
presented with a bouquet of roses
following the Divine Liturgy on

Mrs. Valasiadis is a sunday
school teacher and advisor to the
Ladies Auxiliary. She has been
active in theJPTA and is currently
1st Vice President of the Council.
She has received the PTA life
membership, served on the
Mayor's Committee for the youth
and is on the executive Board of
the Freeport Drug Guidance
Council.
Mrs. Valasiadis is the wife of
the Pastor, Rev. Joakim and
mother of three children, Peter
