NASSAU POLICEMEN WIN NATIONAL POLICE OLYMPICS GOLD MEDALS: Nassau Police

The three were among 11 offkers who represented New York State at the National Police Olympics
in Phoenix. Arinona on October 8.9. and 10. Byrnes, who ran the 100 yard dash in 9M seconds, won two
gpid and 2 siver mecUs in track events. Hendrkduon won a gold medal in Wrestling and Riley won tfie
Heavywei^t Black Belt Judo Gold Medal. Nassau Poike Athletes won a total of 19 medals.

A,ssociation President John McKaharay advised THE
LEADER that he is encouraged by the F.T.A. Negotiating
Team and Executive Committee llnding Ihe report "palatable."
He cautioned, however, that (jlher issues not a>v-ered
in the report would still have to be negotiated individually

A school board member informed Ihe LEADER that
Supl. Costlow has notified the board in a memorandum
that he has received the fact finders report and that an
informal meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct.
21st at 2.00 PM belween Ihe two iiegolialing teams.
It Ls expected that shortly thereafter, Costlow will
indicate to the board whether or not the fact finders
report is acceptable to the school district.

Amendmenl of Article XVHI of
the New York State Constitution
will be presented to the voters at
the election this November.
Mayor Sweeney noted, "This
Amendment passed the State
Legislature virtually unnoticed.
The public knows little or nothing
about it. And the tacticians
behind the Amendment planned
it that way. They hope that the
high-sounding words "Com-miinily
Development" will win
th<' voter, without the public
k'lowing lis real purpose or
substance
"The purpose of the proposed
new Article XVHI is to
restructure vital powers of Local
Governments, such as Villages
and Towns, with respect to
planning and zoning. The
proposed Article would empower
the State to create any ptibUc
corporation or governmental
agency, with authority to act on
