Freeport Memorial Library.
When entering the voting booth
they will also decide whether
incumbent S,.L, (Larry) Yanover
or Gloria Nevard will be a School
Board member for the heXjt three
years and whether or not the
School District shall be allowed to
increase the mileage in which it
will transport private and
parochial students from 10 to 15
mites. The transportation. cost'
will be $25.CMW with 90% .of the .
funds to be returned as State aid
the following school year. The .
latter will be a separate
proposition on the ballot.
The total proposed School
Budget, Is 114.105.859 with
$9,463,859 to be raised by taxation^
- an Increase of lOf per flOO
assessed valuation from. 1972-73-
11.473 last year r^compared to
•11.573 this year. .
The proposed budget, 95,15% of
which is mandated by state law,
lists salaries, at f7,^0,K», a
$75,500 jump from last year, and
"costs based on or connected
with salaries," at $2,081,«», an
increase of $285,800, as the
largest proportion of the total
package, 56.3% and 14.8%
respectively. Th^e figures are
subject to change after the voting
however as they reflect only
agreed - upon Increases with hon -
faculty employees. Faculty and
• Administration employees .are

rate will be revised upon settlement'.
The proposed Freeport
Memorial Libra'ry budget is up
$44,533 from its 1972-73 level of
$^27,253 for a lolal of $471,786. or

assessed vnluatlon. The
Library's. Board of Trustees
anticipates no cuts tnoutlay but u
$10,000 decrease in monies
coming in as fees and fines. As
with*-the School District, the
biggest hike is in salaries and
fringe benefits, up $54,533 from
1972-73's $452,253 for a total of
$506,7B6, "Books, Periodicals; •
Bindings" are up $3,000 fsolely
for books) for a total of $85,750;^
"Maintenance of the Library

On the "down side'' of the total
budget, which has been Increased
Ubrary, the Board points out that
every'effort was made to pare
down costs in order lo raise
employees sailaries. The report
stales; "We are also faced with
competitive factors as to personnel,
in that library staff must
be recruited from the same civil
service * lists as are all other
personnel working for municipal
agencies. Our salaries are very
low! Staff is feeling the crunch of
the increased cost of living to an
alarming degree.:Even-withthe—
Increments provided for this
year, we'will not be anywhere
near the level of personnel in
these other agencies."
Registration for eligible voters
will be held today-tThursday,
• May 31) from 1 pm to 9 pm at all
_elementary .schools. Vpting will
take place Tuesday, June 12,

pm Sunday, slipped and fell
landing on his knee, breaking It.
