was overwhelmingly .approved,
1.543 to 928. The Freeport
Memorial Library enjoyed the
same fate, 1,662 to. 794,
Resoundingly defeated, 1.536 to
883, was the Transportation
Proposition which would have

Trustees, were gathered at the

Annual Installation of the
Freeport Republican 0ub. Other

Saturday, June 9, was not to be a;
normal evening however. The^

already taken steps to insure that
the day will go down in -Village

The storm of tremendous
ferocity travelled from the
Hempstead Plains and marched
a devastating path through .the,
/Village on its way to "the .sea-

havoc in all areas of FVeeport,

says, "it sounded like an express

that in a tornado the whirlwind
action causes structures to fall to
all directions of- the- compass.

reported to the Village Board
Monday night that starting at
7:30 p.m. Saturday, his men had
been on duty until 1 p.ml Sunday.

that time, including fire, aided
and short circuits. During that
time they had jnoi alarm system.
There were two small house fires

Baldwin and Merrick. These
departments had sent their
floodlight trucks into Freeport.
They used the trucks for lighting
as they worked through the night
with the Line Department and
Tree Crews, Also, their dispatcher
was manned from 7:30 p.m.
Saturday until Monday night.
They worked/all day and all
::night. The Freeport firemen were
working three eight-hour shifts.
