of the Freeport Historical Society which maintains the museum,
tells the children of other exhibits of long ago Freeport. There will
be a holiday Open House, December 30, 2 to 5pm, after which the
Museum will dose for change of exhibits.

The December 19 meeting of
the Freeport Board of Education
seems to indicate that if you want
good attendance at such
gatherings, have the high school
students participate. Their
parents will, travel to Atkinson
School.
Mark Goldstein addressed the
group to explain how computers
are used by mathematics
students. He explained that while
terminals aire avatiable- at the
school, the computers of the
Board of Cooperative Education.

With the dedication, December
19, of Preferred Foundations,
Inc.'6 new ep.wo square-foot
building, Hempstead Town's 44
acre Freeport Industrial Park la
completed. The history of the
development of what, was
previously a garbage dump in the
southeastern part of the Village
goes back to 19M when then
Mayor Robert Sweeney appointed
a Business and Industrial
Development Committee. From
It developed the non-profit
Freeport Local development
Corporation charged with the
revitalizalion of the 10 Village'
owned acres at the site. In 1969,
then Hempstead Presiding
Supervisor Ralph Caso created a
similar non-profit corporation to
develop - the Town's 34 acres..,
At the dedication ceremonies,
atlended by Mayor William
White, Village Trustee Dorothy
Storm and Hempslead Town
Development Corporation
Executive Director Boy Cac-clatorc,
Hempstead Town
Supervisor Alfonso D'Amato;
called Che Industrial park, "a true
example of cooperation and
coordination among government
officials on the Town, Village and
Stale level. This is also a project
thai could not have materialized
without community involvement."

The park, containing 27.
businesses which employ 2,321
people with a total payroll of
more than $10,000,600 annually,
has an assessed valuation, of
$2,683,020 and. contributes
1628,899 annually In real property
taxes* The buildings in the park,
which occupy 879,006 square feet,
^wereconstriict^ at a total cost of
$11,5 million. Fourteen were
established with loans from the
New York State Job Development
Authority. V •
D*Amato pointed out that the
Freeport IndiaBlrlal Park Is
serving as a model for future
industrialijuilion by being an
examiple of: how a previously
blighted area which bad been a
nonrtax producing: dumping
grouipd, could be upzoned and
beauuried, "Now," h« said, "this
pleasant and busy industrial park
is playing an increasin^y vital
role in the local economy, not
only, with .algnlflcatrt;, real
-property .taxes, but by supplying
jobs and enriching the com--

develop other similar projects
