FREEPORT-Only 163 people,
turned.out last Sunday, at the
Freeport Recreation Center, for
thefirst dayof the Nassau County
- Swine Flu immunization program.
Throughout, the county,
eipectied crowds never, material-izol
as about 6,000 imnmniza-fions
were given in the 28 sites.
The county, it'was reported,
had vaccine on hand. for. more
than ten times that numbc'r;
A County Department of
Health spokc^)crson attributed
the poor county-wide showing to
several factors. Early morning
rain, he felt, detened all but the
most entbu^astic,. while Halloween
also kept the elderly dose
to iiome. Others, be .said, arc
probably not convinced of the
necessity of the shots and some
a^e still frightened because of
eariier newspaper reports of
- deaths in other jparts of. the
country. There were no deaths
attributed to the immunization
program in the county, Sun^y,
only one mild reaction, the Department
of Health source said,
and some puffy arms.

sources were proclaiming Levy an
