" FREEPORT • With several non-rainy days in this area, work on the
,.Freeport Mall is moving along more rapidly. Passersby on Merrick
Road watched last Tuesday as metal "ship's masts" went up. Eventually
colorful banners will fly froiri these high masts. From Merrick Road
to Sunrise Highway the sidewalks are laid \yith red "bricks" and
shoppers need no longer tread cautiously, AltHough the area between
the wide sidewalks is not yet completed, holiday shoppers wilj be able
to go from store to store during the next few weeks with comparative
ease and comfort.
During the entire month of
December. - the Retail Division
of the Frccport Chamber of Commerce
is celebrating an "un-ofTicial
preview of the, $1,000,000
mall." Many participating stores
will be open the three, Sundays
prior to Christinas daiy (December

.'iBesides the masts and "brick"
sidewalk areas, shoppers can enjoy
the all-wcathcr convenience of
the canopies. Though not fully
completed., the canopies offer
all-weather-protection to shoppers
walking along the mall area.
