FREEPORT - Arthur A. Strunk.
of Willowbrook Lane in Freeport.
has been selected as a 1979 recipient
of the George M. Estabrook
Distinguished Ser\icc Award by
the Hofstra University Alumni
Association. The award, established
in 1961 in honor of a former
Hofstra trustte and benefactor,
will be presented to Strunk at an
investiture dinner at the Univer-sit)'
Saturday. November 17.

November 8. on .the regulation of rents in apartment houses in Free-port,
the village Board of Trustees did promise Ihat they would vote on
the matter no later than December 1. Scheduled voling sessbns of the
board which are open to the public but at which they may not speak,

deteriorated, Herman said in
answer to the argument of some
of the landlords who claimed 'Jiat
rent stabilization would lead to a
decrease in their properties'
value causing the community to
deteriorate.
The only criticism the law has
received, Herman explained, is
on the specific renl guidelines.
"Many tenants feel they have
been to excessive." he said, and
"niany landlords feel they don'J^

study of apartment for renl ads in
daily newspapers, however,
points to Freeport's rentals as
(airiy average. On one particular
day. November II, one bedroom
apartments in Garden City
were offered for $260; In Glen
Cove, for $285; and in Hempstead
for $225-330, all lower than the
Freeport rents dred. On the other
hana. one bedroom apartments in
Lynbrook were listed on a par
with Freeport ($320-378), as they
were in Valley Stream <$285-
383). Freeport s rents did not
seem substantially higher, for
similar apartments, in other areas
that have accepted rent stabilization
guidelines. Studio apartments,
