Freeport, last Monday. June 1. A 21-year old off-duty New York City
transit police officer, Giordano was making a deposit at the t>ank when
the masked man, later identified by police as Rol>ert Weiss ot
Huntington, apparently entered th^ bank and fired a shot. Weiss, who
" pollc6Tay^obbed another Freeport bank of hearly" $7,000 minutes
before, allegedly threatened-Giordano, two other bank patrons and the*
bank's employees before Giordano drew his service revolver from his
' shoulder holster and shot him once in the chest. A Freeport resident,
Giordano is the son pi a retired. Freeport police officer who now lives
upstate. This picture, one in the series taken during the robbery,

Business Development Director's
Position To Be Abolished
FREEPORT - MAtin SUberg, the vaiase's Director di Business
Development for the last two-and-one-halfyears, was told this past
week that .his position is being abolished because of a decrease in
federal funding. Four other persons, alt in the village's Community
Development Agency, received similar notice. They are Deputy Direc-
• tor ot the Community Development..
Agency Hany Brewster,
who has been with that agency
for more than ten years; Bill
Vagts and "Buddy" Meyers,
who work with the village's' .
Homesteading " - Program; and
Joseph Bradshaw, a maintenance
man.
The five men received official
.word from the Village Board of
•Trustees about a week ago:

Silberg described some "significant
changes" brought about
by his efforts.
He ssud first on the list of

Freeport Mall. He called the
work on that project as meeting
with "incredible obstades,"
caused not be the village but
other governmental bodies,
"a highly disinterested owner...
a lot of complications involving

the contracts can go intoi dosing,"
Silberg said. Silberg,
expressing confidence in the
devdoper's "Midas touch,"
said the property should be

the polls. Her posters have been
up for more than a wedt and she

A boat cover ad in the local,
free distribution shopper this
past week, placed by Ms. Russell,

voters to cau for transportation
or information. The number is
that of Freeport EOC. a public
agency.
