State Conunudooer of Eda'catlaa,
Cordon Ambadi to call the sale
' illegal, bating Ids argument* on a
recent law which requites school
districts to have appraisals of
' properties before they sen them.
Accoding to Yoong, who is
employed by the district as a
custodian, the taw requiring the
appraisal went into effect July 29,
1981 and the School Board signed
the' contract with Chlaro on
"July 30. -
Larry Reich, a member of the
Uw firm representing the
Baldwin Board c^ Education, said
the District's position — which
jras expressed at a hearing before
Dr. Ainbach on Jinuary 12 — b '
that U had compBed with the net;
law because the prxjperty icas
appraised in December, 1978.
But Young, who said the
appraisal valued the property at
S240.000, said be would tike to
know "what its value is today."
Young is also objecting to the
Board 3 Education's acceptance
of a "gift" from Chiaro, the" cost
of the district-wide referendum
I on the building's sale. The referendum
was paid, for by Chiaro as
part of the sate price agreement.
According to. Young, the
district's Disposal of Property
Coiiunlttee had no kiwwledge o(
tbe valne of the proteertor. Young
suggated to Tlffi LEADER this
weK that instead of sclUng
Coofidge. school, the District
should have moved the Administration
offices there and sold that
buUdlttg. More' money, said
Young, wooldhave been realized .
for the district because the 3.S
acres would have sold for more
and less reixivations would have'
been nccessaiy.
. Young also told THE LEADER
that he had heard that the School
Board had had other offers,
indnding one for a printing
. school. *•
Young cUims his pay was
docked when be went to Albany
for the heaiiog, becanse he was
not allowed to claim it as a perso-al
day. He says he will file
another complaint with the
Commissioiier on that matter.
' Reic^, in bis arguments stressing'the
district had complied with
the new law^ said Young's appeal
is defective because by law it had
to l>e filed within 30 days from,
July 30 or even 30 days from tJie
reletendam vote, tieither of which
