Freeport Historical Soelaty are hard at work renovating the old former
Dr. Evans' house at 350 South Main Street for use aa the Freeport °
Historical Museum. The Society celebrates Ha 2Qth anniversary this
month with a special dinner Sunday evening. October 24, at tha Church
of the Tranillguratlon In Freeport. According to some original notes,

concert for all Freeport residents
on the Freeport Mall.

Arrests In Arson
Case Expected Soon
FBEEPOBT • Elevei^ persons were fined by Freeport Village Ccntt
Justice Ralph Franco last Thursday, October 14, after pleading guSty - -
to allowing their homes or apartments to be SScgtOy ovetoccnpied. The
fines, the maximum amount allowed under State Uw, were SJSO eadi
for the nine homeowners and two apartment dwellers.
Juiie Ward, owner and resident of 139 FraJeridi Avenue has been
allowing another family to share.
HERE COME THE MUMMEf^S and the world renowned Long Island
Mummers String Band will entertain loltowing the Freeport SQth Blrtt>-
day Parade. The Mummera will give a one-hour concert on the Free-port
Mall on Saturday morning, October 23. Dressed In their multicolored,
leathered costumes, the Mummers will play such toe-tapping
tunes as "Alabama Jubilee," "Bill Bailey" and "Happy Days Are
Here Again."
Purse Snatched In Baldwin
BALDWIN - A jogging suited man allegedly robbed a Manhattan
woman elrly Friday evening, October 15, as she walked on Brtx>klyn
Avenue near Pine Street in Baldwin.
The woman told First Precinct Police that the man had approadied
her and grabbed her pockettfook. but she struggled to hold onto it.
As she fell to the gTtwnd. the
thief made off with the purse snd
iti contents. The incident is under
investigation by -first S<iuad
detectives.
Burglar Caaght
A 32-year-old Long Beach man
was arrested ' by Firrt Squad
•Detective Fuber and charged
with the burglary of a home on
School Street in Baldwin.
Milford B. Chaffer, of 70
Harmon Street, was arrested on
October 11, the day after he

. FREEPORT - The Nassau
County Fire Marshal's Office and
the County Arson Squad were
pursuing what they described as
"some good leads" this week and
hoped, they said, to have arrests
shortly in the fire that caused considerable
damage to a building at
Chureh and Pine Streets..
The blaze was called in at about
1:08 pm on Thursday, October 14,
and all Freeport units responded.
Three Baldwin Fire Department
units — the ladder, pumper and
emergency truck — also responded
on mutual aid. '
The building, at 35 Church
Street, is adjacent to 1 little Pine
Street, which had been destroyed
by fire last year and is awaiting
condemnation. Both buildings are
said to be owned by Frapa Corp.
of Whitestone. New Ydrk.
The Chureh Street structure
was occupied, on the first floor,
by Pode Refrigeration but, one

an apartment in her one-family
bouse to a couple and their three

without obtaining the necessary
permit.

BUILDING ABLAZE. The owner building at Church and Pine Streets
In Freeport broke out In a tire on Thursday afternoon, October 14,
at aljout 1 pm. Soon flames erupted from the second ficor windows
and smoke tilled the Freeport Mall and other n««rby streets. AM units
