Frat Colors Banned Af
Baldwin H.S. After Hazing
BALDWIN - The wearing of (rateraity colon (thiru. jackeU, etc.)
has been banned at Baldwin Senior High' School, for the rest of the
school year, by Dr. Peter lynch, the school's principal.
The ban, which was the result of an incident of violent fraternity
hazing, is the second such ban this term at the Kbool. The reported
<fase of Assault Third Degree is
also the second such reported
incident of physical harm resulting
from fraternity hazing.
Lynch first banned the wearing
of colors at the high school on
September 28, but lifted the ban
three weeks later.- His action
restilled -frxrni the reported
paddling or beating of three
students pledging for a fraternity.
This secoiuJ ban follow the
complaint to the police by a
-mother that her 14-year-old son
received contusions and bniises,
apparently as a result of being
slapped in the face and being
paddled on. the back during an
initiation.
First Sqtud Detectives are
investigating the case' and.
allegedly, the Alpha Omega
Theta fratetnity is the subject of
this ktvcstlgstion.
Last Thursday, October 28,
Dr. Lynch rnei with some fraternity
leaders and urged them to
think of '-'positive projects." He
agreed to meet with all the frater-mty's
memberships'the toUowtng
evening and some 300 were
expecteid. However, only about
30 students actually appeared.
Dr. Lynch said his decision to
ban colors was based on three
sections of the State Education
Uw—1709A, 2503A and 2S54A—
dealing with the nature of secret
societies and the possibility
of a "dear and present danger"
in a volatDe situation.
Local Realtor's License Revoked
FREEPOBT - Village and
Nassau Coonty employees were
instrtimental ui a decision that
revoked the real estate Bcense of
Curtis Walker, representative
broker of Jadiins Realty Corp. of
296 North Main Street.
The October 18th decision to
revoke Walker's license followed
a bearing held by the New Yorit
Secretary of State's represcnU-tjve
on September 8. The decision
also revoked Walker's notary
po blic commission.
The evidence was presented at
the hearing that in October, 1979
Wa&et tad arranged for the
rental of 91 East Dean Street by
a Social Services client. At the
time it was represented that the
house was owned by Walker's
cousin when in fact it had been
foredosed and had been deeded
over to the Administrator of
Veterans Affairs. Although it
was proved he was aware of the
foredosnre. Walker accepted a
commission of $316 from the
Department of Social Services for
the rental and. as of Jaly, 1980,
directly received the monthly
renGd payments from the Depan-mcnt.

One of the hartlest fought races
was Democrat/Liberal Carol

remain a State Senator in a district
that, to her, was almost
brand new. Berman, who will now
