FREEPORT - After a meeting Tuesday evetung. May 28, between
Ben Bsenbe^,.one of the prindpals of Ferban Associates, purchaser
of the site of Gay Lombardo's home, John DeGrazia, chairman of'the
Village's Plajnning Board, called Ferban's latest plans for development
• of the property "impressive."

run in Central Islip May 23-24.
The Re-Creations. which are
sponsored by the Freeport Recre-ation
Department, will-go on to'
compete on June 8 in the Eastern
Regional Competitionsjn Elizabeth
.Town, PA., and to the
national competition to be held in
Indianapolis on July 29.

manager/coach, noted that the
team has -been doing .well this
year, so will go to Indianpolis.
The team members have been
working together since they were
about eight years old, when —
in 1977 — they started as The
Apache Twiilers.
Competing with the team in
Central blip were Lauren Franco,
16; Tracy Wolfe, 15; -Raquel
Rodriguez, 15; Usa Festa, 14;"
KJ. DeBekker, 14; Michele
Hirsch. 16; Tanya BeU, 16;
and Natalie Comerford. 16. PJ.
Lewis, a team member, could not
make the competition because of
a family wedding, but Lorie
Comerford, the team's co-director.

Throughout their years as a
team, the twiriets have made
Freeport proud as they have
taken various state and regional
titles bat. this year, the Indianapolis
competition will be their
first national event.
In order to pay for the various
competition _ expenses, lod^g
and travel, the girls pay annual
• dues of $80 and do a lot of fund-raising.
They also run a competition
at the Recreation Center.
Much of the expenses of the Indianapolis
trip will have to be
paid by the individual girls and
their families and community

John Basedow is also an

Tennis Team, and Gold Medal
winner {'83) and Silver Medal
winner ('84) at the Long Island
Math Fair. Basedow will be attending
William College in the

A,". Ferban sought a
change to a "Condonunium
Zone."
Community input, induding
two dvic associations was negative
on the condo proposal,,
however, in October of last year
and the. Planning Board unanimously
voted, to recommend that
- the plan be turned down.
Eisenberg, Ferraro iand architect
Ray Feldman went back to
their'boards and qow have come
up with a plan to build five one-family

According to Eisenberg, the
five homes will sell for a minimum
of $200,000 each. All will be

Ethnic Festival This Sunday, June 2

Anthony Scalamandre, vale-dictorian
of Freeport High
School's class of 1985, won a $500
Education Award given' by the
Long Island Federation of
Women's aubs (UFWC) at its
90th anniversary convention held
May 17, at Salisbury-on-the-
Green in Eisenhower Park.
This year, the UFWC gave five
of its prestigious Education
Awards, to winning seniors in
Nassau County. The, prizes are
rotated annually to Nassau,
Jul
Suffolk and Queens counties and
will not be given again in Nassau
-until 1988.
Scalamandre's resume,, submitted
to UFWC by Athena's
historian and education liaison
Heloise Ringer, was subjected to
the intense scrutiny of UFWC
judges in, competition with
seniors from other Nassau County
schools.

FREEPORT - The Arts Council
at Freeport, in conjunction with
the Freeport Recreation Center,
is presenting its first Ethnic
Festival on Sunday. June 2, 12-6
pm, at the Recreation Center.
Crafts from all over the world,
which will be displayed, demonstrated
and sold, indude Early
American quilts and woodcarv-ings;
Scandinavian Rosemailing,
Rya weaving, stitchety, Christmas
ornaments and woodcarving:
Grecian jewelry; Turkish glassware;
Jewish pottery induding
Mezznzahs and Seder plates;
and Hebrew calligraphy induding
Ketubot (marriage contracts).
. TTie preparation • of ethnic
delicacies win be demonstrated
and a variety of foods — Jamaican,
Phillipme, Greek, Middle
Eastern, Scandinavian, Mexican
and Columbian — win be sold.
