Avenue will welcome
crowds numbering well over
100.000 for the Nautical
Mile's annual Freeport Summer
Festival this v>-eekend.
Festival goers *ill be treated
to a dizzying array of
sights, smells and sounds as
they sample seafood restaurant
specials outdoors, and
watch and listen to performances
ranging from dance
and jazz to barbershop and
oompah.

the Nautical Mila Saturday
and Sunday, the activity will

Arcadia" and 'Light Year" at
the l i d e s , and the Gloria
Parker Jazz Band at Frank
and Morgos Mermaid.
For the kids, the Festival
will feature pony rides at
Fiore Brothers, Pig Races at
Olto'a, a Junior Pishing Contest
Qt Lou's Pishing Station,
and Childritn's Theater performed
by Betsy Dickerson.
Hi-Hello and the Sharon
Jones Dance TVoupe.
Adults can enter the
Freeport Blue Fish Contest or
the Fluke and Flounder Contest,
participate in the New .
York Seltzer Taste Test, and
peruse exhibits from the
Freeport Arts Council and the
Veterans of Vietnam War
Also featured will bo a boat .
show and special sales run by
Woodclefl boat dealers, and an
arts and craf^ fair sponsored
by the Freeport Historical
Society from 12 to 6 p.m. each
day.
Harbor Cruises aboard the
Miss Freeport will leave
hourly both days between 2
and 8 p.m.
And if all this action makes
one hungry, the Nautical
Mile's Restaurants will ofTer
outdoor specials including flsh
shishkabob, mako, shrimp,
smoked fish and flsh and clam
chowders.

The outdoor pools at the
Freeport Recreation Center
ara now open on weekends
until July when they will be
open from 'X\Maday to Sunday.
Registration for summer
prograniming offered by the
Recreation Department will be
held for children on Saturday.
June 17, and fcr teens (age 16
and up) and adults on Monday,
June 19.
Resident children will be
registered from 10 a.m. to
noon, and non-residents from
1 to 2 p.m. Offered for children
are art, Kiddie Camp,
Youth Camp, Sporta Camp,
diving, the ffidie Park Program,
swimniing and tennis-
Resident adults wiU be registered
from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
and TMn-residents frortn 8:30 to
9:30 p.m. Offered for them
are aerobic dancing, low
impact aerobics, aquacise, art,
body sculpture, body conditioning,
ceramics, diving, guitar,
morning workout, slim-nasties,
swimming, tennis and
yoga.
All registrants must have a
current Annual Activity Card
which is $4 for residents and
$5 for non-residents. Most
programs have a fee of $15 for
residents and $25 for r^r-rcs:

Stevcni Street will no! be
Opened this summer due to
mechanical problems. The
Village's other neighborhood
pools, at Randall Park, will be
open.
Following discussions with
area residenta, tha Village has
agreed to provide bus service
from Martin Luther King
Park on Mondays in July and
August so that youngsters
may enjoy the pools at the
Recreation Center. This was
done two years ago when the
Randall Park pools were
closed for repair. There will
be no charge for transportation
or pool use.
In addition, throughout the
week there will be ongoing
supervision at the park it&eU
to maintain organized play
which will include numerous
activities including sports and
arts and crafts. Day trips will
also be offered-
Summer recreation in Baldwin
The Baldwin Recreation
Association, which provides a
summer recreation program
for diildren in grades kindergarten
through eight, will
begin its registration- The
program takes place from
Monday through Friday, July
10 to August 18. from 9:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the fee
is $65. The program incudes
playground activities, tennis,
vollej-balJ, roller skating, soft-ball
and arts and crafis. In
addition, there are special
attractions such as twirling.
