projjerty-and the assesaetl valuation!
set locally over a period of years.
The village has had about 60
million dollars M assessed valuation
on Its'boolES. The equalization rate
just established—46 per cent—raises
to 130 million dollars the figure upon
which taKBtSsn and borrowing limits
are based. . .
IJBCh year thtese iinilts are based
upon an average tor ihe past five
years. Mr. Smith poiHted out that
Preeport and other Nassau Pounty
villages are among the best assessed
cammunltles in the entire state, although
almost everywhere the assessed
valuations-are figured close
to prices In the old depression days.
The large numuer of Industries
and comnierclal enterprises that
have come to Preeport In repent
years are helpful In stat>Ul«ing the
tax rate, according • to Mr. Smith.
He explained that while new homes
usually require expenditures tor |
schools and a number of village
services, commercial buildings do
not require these additional public
ejepenaitures. " '
Hearings on the new rates will be
conducted by the "state board In the
State Office Building, Albany on
April iO and 20.
