Meet new FHS interim principal
FREEPORT SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Dr.
Eric L. Eversley welcomes Theresa F. Oropallo as she assumes the post of interim principal of Freeport High School.
The Freeport Board of Education has approved the appointment of experienced high school administrator Theresa F. OropaHo as Freeport High School's interim principal. She succeeds former FHS Principal Dr. Michael Courtney, who recently accepted a post as an assistant superintendent in Westchester County.
Ms. Oropallo served as principal of Northport High School for 12 years, moving up from an assistant princi-palship at the same school. She retired in 2003, and since then has been an adjunct professor at SUNY Stony Brook, teaching in the university's Educational Leadership
Program.
As principal of Northport High School, she expanded the Advanced Placement (AP)
program, assisted in establishing a viable science research program, and organized the school's evaluation for Middle States Accreditation. She was pro-active in community and parent outreach and known to regularly attend after-school activities and events.
.She holds a professional diploma in educational administration from C.W. Post, in addition to a Master's degree in curriculum development and a Bachelor's degree in EngUsh, both from St. John's University. She is completing her doctoral degree in the Educational Administration Program at New York University.
Prior to her service in Northport, Ms. Oropallo spent 21 years at Richmond Hill High School, as a teacher, coordinator of student activities, and assistant principal.
"We're very pleased to welcome an interim principal who espouses so many of the values and goals that we hold for Freeport High School," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eric L. Eversley. "Her previous experiences prepare
her well to carry on with important academic initiatives such as our own Middle States accreditation and competitive science research program, launched during the last few years. In the meantime, the district will continue to be active in seeking a permanent principal with similar outstanding qualifications and administrative experience."
