Freeport board organization niglit

The annual organization meeting for Freeport took place at Monday's Village Board meeting.
In one key personnel change, Carolyn Thomas, deputy village clerk for the past eight years, was named as village clerk to complete the term of Anna Knoeller, who has retired after 11 years in the position.
Following an operatic rendition of "America the Beautiful" at the start of the meeting by Soh "Vfoung Lee Segredo, director of the Multicultural Peace Mission Choir, and the invocation by Rabbi Lawrence Colton, Justice Ralph R Franco administered the oath of office to Mayor Wilham F. Glacken.
Mayor Glacken then reflected on several highlights of his previous eight years in office, including overcoming a budget deficit and balancing the budget each of the eight consecutive years. 'Together we made Freeport a different place and resolved the financial crisis," the mayor told a large audience at Village Hall.
He also touched on several accompUsh-ments including capital improvements such as rebuilding the Nautical MUe, revitalizing „ the central business district and construction of the Main Street Mews; the major investment of a 47-megawatt power generator and a second, privately owned generator "that will meet the needs of the next two generations."
Other projects include replacement of water wells and raising of low-lying areas to reduce flooding by 90 percent and safer parks.
"By working together we have turned a corner on rebuilding the community," he said.
Following his brief address, reelected Trustees Renaire Frierson-Davis and Donald K. Miller took their oaths of office from Mayor Glacken and Hempstead Councilwoman Angle Cullin respectively. Ms. Frierson-Davis was reappointed to a one-year term as deputy mayor.
Others sworn to office were Acting Village Justice Francis Fineo and Vincent R. Cacciatore as village justice.
The following appointments also were made to village government agencies and officers: Thomas Preston, deputy village assessor and village auditor; Valerie Montes, deputy village treasurer; Bernadine Quinton, village assessor;
Stephen K. Malone and Howard Colton, deputy village attorneys; Raymond Straub, research assistant to the Board of Trustees; Julie O'Toole, secretary to the mayor and board of trustees; and Raymond Maguire, secretary to the Fire Department;
Harrison J. Edwards, village "attorney; Tina Springer, secretary to the "Zoning Board; Steven Lieberman, village comptroller; Harold Mahoney, chairman of the Board of Ethics, Rev. Eric Mallete and MeUssa Franco,, members of the Board of Ethics for five and one-year terms respectively.
Other appointments were:
• Commission for the Conservation of the Environment of Freeport: Patrick Bentivegna, member and chairman;
• Highway Commission: Richard Roman, chairman; and Thomas Tkylor and WiUiam Perick, members,
• Commission on Human Relations: Ralph Smith, chairman; and members Kenneth R. Dash Sr., Helen Jenkins.
• Park Commission: Angle CuUin, chairman and member Barbara Simms.
• Sewer and Sanitation Commission Board: Fred Lomangino, chairman; Jerome Martin, member.
• Water and Light Commission Board: Arthur Lewis, chairman; Steve McoUno and Ronald Schiotis Jr., members.
• Electrical Board: "William "Walsh, chairman; Steven Krupka, Robert DiGasso, Robert DiPolito, Lester Endo, Lester Endo Jr., and Charles Garritano, members.
• Planning Board: Robert Cardinale, chairman; members Nina Dillon, vice chair, Robert Delmond and Kenneth R. Dash Sr.; Susan Lyons (counsel);
• Plumbing Board: John Steffgen, chairman; Ernest Stumpf, Thomas Basalone and Richard Van Wicklen.
