Freeport will welcome the Musikverein Stadtkapelle, a German musical group, to perform a free concert at the Caroline G. Atkinson School at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 20.
The concert band's presentation will precede the visit of an official delegation from its home city, Walldorf, Germany due to arrive the following week.
Mayor Bill Glacken signed a ceremonial "partnership. agreement" with the mayor of Walldorf two years ago. This year Mayor Heinz Merklinger will
return the courtesy at noon on Sunday, June 5, at a special event on the Esplanade on the Nautical Mile.
The musical group of approximately 50 members, ranging in age from 12 years old to adult, will perform a variety of selections from Br9adway shows, film themes, ragtime music and jazz pieces.
For a preview of the concert, check the website at www.stadtkapelle-wall- dorf.de and click on HORPROBEN in the bottom box on the right and then Gablonzer Perlen or Military Escort.
