"I believe it's a responsible budget, both financially and educationally," said Deputy Superintendent Kishore Kuncham of the Freeport school budget that will be re-submitted to the voters on Tuesday, June 14. On June 1 the school board held a budget hearing to present the issues to the pubUc.

Major factors impacting the budget are increases in retirement contributions, health insurance, liability insurance, utilities, and salaries - largely items either mandated or contractually negotiated. Only 9 1/2 teachers are being added (of 45 staffing requests) and $1,475 million of capital improvements undertaken (for roofs, structural, HVAC and fire alarms at various schools, water meters districtwide and parking lot work at Atkinson and the administration building.
