Busted! Five arrested in narcotics sting in Freeport
by Laura Schofer
Thanks to cooperation between Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon, Nassau County Police Commissioner James Lawrence and the Freeport Police, a sting operation took place that resulted in the arrest of five individuals in Freeport, according to Freeport Police Chief Michael Woodward.
"We assisted the District Attorney in making the arrests," said Chief Woodward. He explained that a sting operation was set up in a room at the Yankee -Clipper Motel where people were dealing drugs. "It was a place for supplier and buyer to meet and exchange," said Chief Woodward.
Freeport was one of several targeted areas throughout Nassau County. According to District Attorney Dillon, "The undercover
officers went into these coimnunities with audio and video sur, eillance capability. The undercover officers purchased crack, cocaine and marijuana from street-level dealers. To date, we have arrested 37 defendants. 'Ten of the individuals arrested were known gang members associated with the Bloods, Crips and MS-13 gangs. In addition to helping rid our streets of dealers we were able to get several weapons off the street. Some of these weapons included guns and machetes." M r .
Dillon.added that the "narcotics sting operation is part of our continuing effort to eliminate the open and notorious street dealing. "
None of the five individuals arrested was from Freeport," said Chief Woodward.
The Freeport arrests were made in. December.
