Waterfront Park Hosts Annual Canoe Races
Many of the competitors in the canoe and kayak races sponsored by Freeport's Chamber of Commerce and Police Activity League, were just as happy to be in the water as to race on it.
During the last race of the day, as the tem-peiBtuiB climbed into the high 90s, one set of paddlers got off to a great start, but after they rounded the bend at Waterfront Park, the two decided the water was just too inviting and slipped in for a cool dip while the other contestants paddled furiously to the finish line.
The two strays were rounded up and delivered to land courtesy of the Coast Guard tender. The annual event raises funds to benefit PAL sports programs for young people.
