by Laura Schofer
Bias incideats - in Roosevelt and Baldwin and South Hempstead - have spurred communit}' acfiwsB to take action after nooses were found at Baldwin Park, a Town of Hempstead and a Nassau County facility.
On Thursday, November 1. The National Oroanization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) %vill host a town n»edng at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Roosevelt to address hate crimes and intimidation by unknown person(s). The noose refers to the practice of lynching African-An^ericans that took place In the American South during and prior to the civil rigH^aiQvesient of the last isntury. ; '"lliedviHeadasMddief^ajmaflity *?aftt justice," said Wilton Rob^soB^a
member of NOBLE and the Freeport-Roosevelt branch of the NAACR "We want people to understand the significance of such an act."
The first occured early last week at Baldwin Park where a noose reportedly had been displayed on a vehicle at the facility.
The Leader called Nassau County police who had no comment and did not issue a press release on this incident.
However, Hempstead Town spokesper-soa Susie Treakle told The Leader the "town contacted the police and bias crimes unit who are investigating.
A press release was issued about an incident that occurred on October 17 at the Town of Hempstead Highway Department in Roosevelt. A supervisor notified the police that two nooses had
been attached to a forkliJfi in the yard. The following ^y, October IS, anoihei noose was found at^ched to :in intut ior fence of one of the garage tiuck bays at the Nassau County DepaUnieiii i>t Public Works on Bald\vin Road

The town meeting will "hiwx-fuliy stem the tide of these cowardly acts," said Mr. Robinson, who told The Leader he is concerned about the increase in these incidents. "This should not be taken lightly, by any means," he added.
