Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Senior Councilman Anthony Santino have announced that, thanks to a $500,000 state grant from New York State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, more commercial streets will be beautified, enhancing the revitalization of downtown Baldwin.
The funds will be used to enhance the south side of Merrick Road from Grand Avenue to Park Avenue. Streetscape beautification work will include brick-paved walkways, benches, attractive trash receptacles and Victorian streetlights.
"This beautification project is wonderful for the residents who will be able to stroll down the street and enjoy the lovely atmosphere of their own community," said Supervisor Murray. "We have seen the tremendous impact that these revitalization projects have had on local areas and this streetscape initiative will truly enhance downtown Baldwin."
"Kate Murray and I are pleased to partner on projects with Senator • Skelos," noted Councilman Santino. "We've'made great communities' more beautiful together." ,
The beautification will lead right into the urban renewal project, which will bring major, nationally recognized businesses to the area along-Grand Avenue and Merrick Road.
'These enhancements will niake Baldwin an even more attractive area to live, work and raise a family," concluded Murray.
