The race for the 8th senatorial district

' First elected in 1998 to the New York Stafe, Senate, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. represents the Eighth Senatorial District on'Long Island, which includes portions of the Towns of Hempstead and Oyster Bay in Nassau County.and a portion of the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County. -
Senator Fuschillo wrote legislation to protect consumers against identity tiieft, which affects millions of people and costs billions of dollars, and legislation to safeguard. people's privacy and protect them fix)m such theft
He also authored the law requiring businesses and government agencies to notify consumers when their personal information is compromised as a result of a security breach. He wrote the law allowing consumers to block outside access to their credit information by placing a security fieeze on their credit reports.
Senator Fuschillo continues to work to sttengthen New York's DWI laws. He is involved widi many local organizations, including Kiwanis, the Chamber of
Commerce, . the Community Wellness Council, Italian Anfiericans in Government and Order Sons of Italy in America. ' A lifelong resident of Long Island, Senator Fuschillo earned a Bachelor of Business Adminisdition degree fi'om Adelphi University; majoring in finance.
He is chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee and a member, of the Senate Committees on Civil Service and Pensions; Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business'; Education; Health; Labor; and Transportation..
The budget has lost and estimated 15-20-percent of its revenue. Wliat will this do to services, who has been affected and could this all be recovered if the market rebounds?
Yes, it could be recovered. We won't know actual numbers until November 5, when the two houses, the budget office and the cohip-tix)ller all meet with their estimates of revenue lost We'll go back November 18 to then deal with it

Carol Gordon is running against six-tertii incumbent Senator Fuschillo Jr. for tiie Eighth Senatorial District. As a longtime grassroots advocate living in Massapequa, she is acting executive director of the North Amityville Community' Economic Council, and worked for over 20 years for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Northport, much of the time spent as a clinical health supervisorandpatient advocate.
Armed with a Bachelor's degree.in business administration fix)m Farmingdale State College, she is vice-president of the Breezy Point Civic Association, a member of the Save Jones Beach Committee, amember of the North Amityville Old School Association, is third vice-president of the National Association for the Advanceiiient of Colored People, chairperson of the mentoring and education committee for the Urban Financial Services Coalition of Long Island.
She has earned numerous professional awards, certifications and citations fa: ho- woric
vyith women, with veterans, with children and with the Afiican-American community.
She is collector of African-American artifacts and teaches a course in collecting such artifacts. She commends Senator Fuschillo on his forward stance toward DWI in helping protect teens, saying tiiat prevention is a way to help alleviate many of the problems we face at present.. Further, she believes in the diversity of newpoints as a means to reach more far-reaching and comprehensive solutions toward social and economic problems, and that such diversity presents the Legislaftire with die challenges with which to seek new avenues to promote more inclusiveness and compassion toward all constituents of the state.
She is also endorsed by die Working Families Party.'
