Nautical Fest Weekend
. Freeport's annual weekend of family fun will begin June 5 with the opening of the carnival rides in the parking lot midway along .Woodcleft Avenue directly across from the Esplanade.
The carnival will .begin at 6 p.m. Friday evening and will include ridesi games and the usual, fun foods such.as cotton candy, hot dogs and popcorn.
The Festival opens. Saturday at noon with Mayor Andrew Hard\yick performing' the official ribbon-cutting duties at the north end of Woodcleft Avenue and Front Street.
Throughout the Festival, Woodcleft Avenue will be closed to traffic while the street , is filled with arts and crafts booths, food vendors, clownf and cartoon characters to pro- • vide entertainment for the youngsters. The local restaurants will be featuring their special seafood menus duriiig the event, as well as other favorite, dishes:
.Woodcleft Avenue will be closed to traffic during the festival hours Saturday, June 6, from noon to 8 p.m. land Sunday, June 7, from' noon to'8 p.m. Free parking will be available at the Hempstead Town Marina located at the south end of Guy Lombardo Avenue. Free shuttle buses will provide transportation to the "Nautical Mile and back throughout the festival. - Available parking fron) Merrick Road south during the Festival is scarce and it is" usual-. ly difficult to drive in that area once the event begins. Visitors with handicapped parking permits may park along the side streets.
Freeport police and village "employees will'guide cars with handicapped individuals
