Town of Hempstead remembers

On this eighth year of remembrance, the Town of Hempstead, led by Supervisor Kate Murray, again took part
in a touching memorial to those who were
lost on September 11, 2001. For the second time since 2002 it rained heavily over
the Lido Beach site Friday morning.
But this did not stop the overflowing residents from taking part in one of the most touching traditions that the town offers. The Lido Beach site, under a huge tent featured beautiful chrome replicas of the Twin Towers standing over a blue lagoon pool that later would be filled
with long stemmed white carnations in memory of those who were lost. Surrounding the pool was an area of sand, that would be filled with miniature American flags, some with tagged personal notes to those who were remembered this 9-11 morning.

Presentation of the colors by the Point Lookout/Lido Beach Fire Department, "Taps" was played by Peter Meyer of that fire department and the Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Pat Cassetta. A Stirring rendition of the National
Anthem was sung by Fred McFarland of the Levittown Fire Department, followed by Uie
"Ringing of the Bell," by Fire Commissioner
John Rotkamp of tlie Levittown Fire Department. Andy McDicken, as always since the fust memorial, played "Amazing Grace" on his bagpipes. .
