Townsfolk Mourn
Death of John Duebel
W a s O n e of The Pioneer
Residents of Bethpage
Many towiisfolk mourned the sudden death of John A.
Duebel, proprietor of the Park View Inn, located on Central
and Stewart Avenues here in Bethpage.
Mr. Duebel, who died last
Wednesday, was well thought
of the Island over and was one
of the Pioneer residents of
Bethpage.
He operated a hotel opposite
the station at Bethpage for
many years. He then moved
his business to its
on Stewart and Central Ave-nues.
Jilr. Dubel's home was
located on the corner of Main
Street and Central Avenue,
where he has resided for many
years.
He was buried last Saturday
at Sag Harbor.
Mr. Duebel was seventy-four
years old at the time of his
death and would have been
seventy-five years old on Sun-day.
He is survived by his wife,
two sons, Milton and Norman,
and a daughter, Elsie.
Dance Art Pupil
To Sing At
Westbury Theatre
Little six year old Miss Mar-ion
Honeyman, a voice pupil
of Miss Swoboda of the Dance
Art Studio, 117 Broadway,
Hicksvllle, will sing for you
with a popular band at the
Westbury Tehatre, on Thursday
night, October 9th. Marion will
sing four popular numbers: 'T
Hear a Rhapsody," "Marie
Elena," "The Bad Humor Man."
She will also give her imper-sonation
of Kate .Smith in
"When the Moon Cuaies Over
the Mountain."
School Board
To Hold Special
Meeting Tuesday
The Board of EdTucauoVi "oT
the Bethpage Public School
held a special meeting on Mon-day
evening at 8:45 p. m. in
the school.
The meeting was called to
order by the chairman, Mr.
John Klug. Four board mem-bers
were present, they being
the Mesrs. Joseph Ellinger,
Charles Schwarz, John Klug
and Carmino Cava.
The decision and order of
the state commissioner of edu-cation,
who declared the ap-pointment
of Raymond Amen-dola
invalid, was read by the
district clerk and after some
discussion, Mr. Schwarz nom-inated
Mr. Fred Kramer to
fill the vacancy created by Mr.
Amendola. Mr. Cava found
objections to this candidate by

on Saturday, October 11th,
from 7:00 a. m. to 10:00 p. m.,
and Saturday, October 18th,
from 1:00 p. m. to 10:00 p. m.
The local registration places
for the two districts of Beth-page
will be the school house
for district No. 28, and the
firehouse for district No. 2.

bo permitted to vote at the
November 4th election.
Local Merchant
Offers New
Award Plan
Raymond Asher, proprietor
of the Bethpage Hardware and
Housefurnishing Company, has
just announced the inaugura-tion
of a new merchandise
award plan. He will give a
dollar's worth of merchandise
free upon the presentation of
a card, which shows that the
holder has purchased $10's
worth of merchandise at his
store.
When a purchase is made,
the card is punched the amount
of the purchase and when it
totals ten dollars in purchases,
the holder of the card will
receive one dollar's worth of
merchandise free.
The selection of merchandise
is entirely free and the choice
of the holder of the card, and
will cover all items in the
store except precision tools.

Complete Plans
Legion Post To Participate In Air
Raid Maneuvers O c t o b e r 9 to 16
Plans having been completed by the Nassau County Defense
council and the local defense council, Bethpage and the surround-ing
communities, are well prepared for the air raid test and
defense maneuvers which are to start tomorrow and continue
through October 16th,
Taxpayers Will
Oppose Double
Taxation
- - o p p o s i t i o n is growing
throughout New York State and
Long Island to the double tax-ation
inflicted upon tax payers
in this State, by not permit-ting
such tax payers to deduct
the amount of their Federal
income tax payments from their
State income tax returns. The
Long Island Association, which
has opposed this double taxa-tion
for many years, is joining
with .hundreds of civic and tax-payer
orgi^ni/ations throughout
the State in an active campaign
to have this system of taxing
taxes rescinded at the forth-coming
legislative session in
1942.

Miss Foran Engaged To Paul F. Kreitzberg
Herbert Hicks of Spencer
Street, Farmingdale, is conval-escing
at Meadowbrook hos-pital,
East Meadow, from a re-cent
operation.
Mi's. Richard L. Foran of
B r o a d w a y , Bethpage, an-nounced
the engagement of her
daughter, Gloria Frances, to
Mr. Paul F. Kreitzberg, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kreitzberg
of Port Jefferson, at an engage-ment-
dinner party held Satur-day
evening, September 2, at
the Five Corners Restaurant,
Bethpage.
Miss Foran is a graduate of
Farmingdale High School. She
is employed by the Long Island
Railroad and she also edits a
column in the Centre Island
News.
Mr. Kreitzberg is a graduate
of Port Jefferson High School,
and is now employed by the
Long Island Railroad as a
brakeman.

Richard Foran, Mr. and Mrs.
Kreitzberg, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Moesch of Jamaica, Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond F. McGunnigle,
of Bethpage, Mr. and Mrs.

Although no definite date has
been set for the wedding, it is
expected that l!if couple will
wed some time during the com-ing
winter months.
Two weeks ago 75 commit-tee
chairmen of local councils
made their first direct meet-ing
with the county defense
council at the Denton building
in Mineola.
Herbert L. Bodman, the
county defense director, gave
an outline of the county and
1<2C?1 defense plans in connec-tion
with the air coxv^-fai
ers which starts tomorrow.
A preliminary test of the
organization was made yester-day,
which have been installed
in county police headquarters.
A system of light signals
will be used as warning signals
in the test. A yellow flash
of light will signify that
the bombers are twenty-five
minutes away, a blue light,
fifteen minutes away, and a
red light, five to seven minutes
away. A white flash will be
tiie all clear signal.
When tlie blue flash is
received at the county police
headquarters in Mineola, the
warning will be relayed to the
six county precincts, who will,
in turn, notify the patrolmen
on duty to inform the local
council, which will sound the
alarm which will be a long
blast of the fire siren. The all-clear
signal will be short toots
of the fire siren.
The maneuver operations will
be limited to daylight except in
the New York and Norfolk
regions, where experimental
operations will be carried out
at night.
Hon. Willis B. Carman of
Farmingdale lias been appoint-ed
air raid warden for Beth-page
and will assist the Chief
of the Warden Service, Sher-man
Moreland, Jr., in organiz-ing
and supei-vising the zone
defense. The Arcliie McCord
Post Number 6 of the American
Legion have also completed
plans to take part in the warn-ing
service test
