BETHPAGE 9U BASEBALL TEAM WINS THE FALL CLASSIC!!!
The Bethpage 9u (White) Baseball Team won the BBAI Fall Classic this weekend by defeating the L.I Mudcats by the score of 12-5. Firing on
all cylinders, the boys from Bethpage put up 12 runs in the first 2 innings and never looked back. John Riggins topped it off throwing 5 innings of 3
hit ball allowing 1 run with 8k's and only 1 walk. The Mudcats showed a lot of grit fighting their way back in the last inning putting up 4 runs and
had the bases loaded when Jimmy "The Bulldog" Mahoney came in and shut the door. He induced a game ending grounder to Mateo Dovas who
stepped on the bag and began the celebration!!! This Bethpage team worked extremely hard all season long. They practiced indoors on
Wednesday's to stay on a pitching routine and on Friday's they went outdoors with an emphasis on hitting. All of their hard work paid off when the
playoff bell rang!! At the plate they outscored their opponents 45-19 with victories over Seaford L.L (15-8), Wantagh L.L (8-5), Oceanside L.L (10-
1) and the Mudcats (12-5). On the mound, this team was led by fireballer Richie Gennaro, John Riggins , Mateo "Florida" Dovas and Jimmy "The
Bulldog" Mahoney. These boys allowed only 6 earned runs and 10 walks in 21 playoff innings! Behind the dish, anchoring this potent staff was
the tough as nails play of catcher Brody "The Bruiser" Paola. On the field, the speed and grace of Cameron Leary and Frankie DiMartino coupled
with the hard nosed play of Kevin Groom, John O'Connor and Mateo Dovas gave opposing teams fits when they flashed their leather. But the
key to this season has been the growth of youngsters, Lucas Seely, Daniel Settino, Kevin Groom and Tyler Lagois. These boys joined the team
this year and stepped up big time! Seely with game winning hit after hit, towering shots by Groom, the ferocious bats of Settino and Lagois com-bined
with an already powerful lineup of 5th graders and there you have an opposing pitcher's nightmare.
"I am so proud of the effort put forth by each and every player not only for this tournament but all season long! I have never been around a
group of boys that absolutely loved playing together on the field and off as much as these boys! I owe a big debt of gratitude to my coaching staff
Rich Gennaro, Rob Leary, Jay Seely and Ron Paola. All of the time and effort they put forth working with these boys helping them grow and
develop into fine young ball players. The memories and friendships that were made on the team with the players and parents this year will last a
lifetime! We have accomplished every goal that we set for them individually and as a whole this season." said Head Coach John Riggins.
Bethpage went 23-8 in the NJBL Spring/Summer Leagues making it to the semi final round of the playoffs. They competed In the Cai Ripken
Tournament and defeated the Tom's River Elite qualifying for the playoffs and getting some experience playing on the big stage. They competed
locally against some of the best "A" teams in the area winning the Plainview Summer Slam "A" Championship by defeating the Massapequa
Coast 8-1. Finally, ending the year with a homecoming and winning
The BBAI Fall Classic. "The BBAI Fall Classic was definitely sweet
for the boys. It's always great to take pride when competing in a
home tournament and having the opportunity to represent your town
and Little League. We couldn't be more proud of all that these boys
I Q i Z - ^ l l l i AN 3DVdHLL3a have accomplished this year and we look forward to the 2012 sea-aAV
TGMOd IP son."
