Auxiliary
The East Rockaway Aux-iliary
Police have ^rved the
community for many years.
One-hundred percent volun-teers,
they patrol the parks
and streets in cars furnished
by the Village. C.A.R.E.R.
(Community Action Resi-dents
of East Rockaway) is
also a group of volunteers
deeply interested in the bet-terment
of life in the Village.
John L. Kiermeier is Cap-tain
of the Auxiliary Police.
The volunteers are on duty
daily from 7 p.m. to mid-night
watching, warning,
and extending a helping
hand to local people in need.
There is a telephone service
for urgent calls, followed by
a quick response. The
number at their headquar-ters
on 4 James Street is
599-1120.
They are out in full iorce
on Huckleberry Frolic days,
helping not only on the
grounds but inside the
Museum during visiting
hours when things get a bit
crowded and hectic. The
Mill committee is always
grateful to note their uni-formed
presence.
Frank Altamore heads
the C.A.R.E.R. group. They
too are deeply concerned
with the quality of life in the
Village. One of their most
important concerns is mak-ing
our residents more
aware of the harmful use of

drugs and excessive drink-ing
of alochol that often
completely destroy an oth-erwise
useful life.
"We are not only inter-ested
m drug and alcohol
abuse," said Mr. Altamore.
"We are also aware of and
try to aid in the solution of
other concerns of the Vil-lage."
One of their "con-cerns"
is the preservation of
the Museum, hence they are
having a booth with a game
at the Frolic to raise funds.
They will also have helpful
pamphlets on drugs and
alcohol.
