East Rockaway Village Board Report
Cash Register
Ready and Open
SALUTE. The Chiefs and men of the East Rockaway Fire
Department salute Chief Chaplain George Hardy and his
wife. We wish him many years of good health. (Photo by Joe

Last week Henry F. Reder
of Alexine Avenue, accom-panied
by Anthony Boiler as
a stalwart helper, brought a
200-pound, 1915 cash regis-ter
to the Museum as an
added display in Alexander
Davison's office. Mr. Reder
had had it in his basement
for quite a while but with the
Frolic coming up might
have thought the Museum
could make use of it! All that
is needed to fill those little
wooden sections is fair
weather ^ n d to date no
Frolic, though dampened,
has ever been washed out.
Word of added surprises
in the parade have been
rumored around as well as
other new features. During
the opening ceremonies a
special citation will be pres-ented.
to each organization
that has contributed.
By this time everyone in
^the Village plus Bay Park
and Hewlett Point should
have received a full copy of
the Frolic program. Be see-ing
you there!
Mayor Theodore Rein-hard
and the East Rocka-way
Village Board held their
Village Board regular meet-ing
for the month of June on
Monday, June 11 at the Vil-lage
Hall.
Mayor Reinhard and the
Board congratulated Rev.
George Hardy on his retire-ment
from Bethany Congre-gational
Church and wished
him many years of health
a n d h a p p i n e s s . They
reminded everyone that this
Saturday, June 16, would be
the date of our 15th Annual
Huckleberry Frolic and
urged all residents to take
part in East Rockaway's
special day. Trustee Santino
commended Superintendent
of Public Works Gene Tor-borg
and his staff for the
wonderful job they did on
Memorial Day.
First Assistant Chief Tom
Cittadino reported that for
the month of May, there
were 52 rescue calls, 9 general
alarms and 6 still alarms.
The A u x i l i a r y Police
reported that 752 miles of
street were patrolled, and
Superintendent Torborg
stated that 24 tons of gar-bage
had been collected and
215 miles of street swept.
Superintendent Torborg
also reported that the
Department's new car had
finally arrived.
The Library reported that
345 new books had been
added, along with 4 micro-films,
for a total holding of
60,124. 7,158 articles were
circulated, 136 rented, with
527 miscellaneous, for a
total circulation for the
m o n t h of 7821. They
reminded the Board that the
Cultural Arts Council will
hold a June Tea on Monday,
June 18 at noon at the Pub-lic
Library.
T h e J u s t i c e C o u rt
reported that for the month
of May there were 312 park-ing
violations disposed, and
110 moving violations, and a
total of $5,558 collected in
fines.
A request from the East
Rockaway Youth Service
Centre to use Memorial
Park on Saturday, August
11 between the hours of 6
p.m. and 11:30 p.m. was
tabled because the Board
could not at that time come
to an agreement on the late
hour of the proposed con-cert.
Mayor Reinhard and
^ T r u s t e e S a n t i n o were
opposed to a cut-off time of
11:30, citing the fact that the
residents in the immediate
vicinity would be annoyed
by the loud noise late at
night. Trustee Wipfler con-tended
that the Youth
O r g a n i z a t i o n should be
allowed to hold the concert
in the park, and that the time
of 11:30 p.m. was not
unreasonable. Unable to
reach a consensus, the
Board tabled the matter.
The Board allowed the
residents of Donald Place to
hold a block party on June
30 between the hours of 1
and 10 p.m., with all fees
waived. The Board also
allowed the residents of a
portion of Centre Avenue to
hold a block party on Satur-day,
July 14 between the
hours of noon and 10 p.m.
Fly Your Flag
East Rockaway Mayor
Theodore Reinhard today
urged all residents to fly the
American flag duritig the
1984 International Gamesi
for the Disabled which will
be held in Nassau County
between June 16 and June
30.
'This is a unique oppor-tunity
for Village residents
to show the world that we
take pride in Old Glory and
display it proudly," stated
Mayor Reinhard.
The Mayor pointed out
that more than 1,500 ath-letes
from over 50 cou-^^ries
will be living and traveling in
Nassau during the games.
"1 would like them to see
the American flag flying in
f r o n t of every home,"
Mayor Reinhard said, ' it
would make a good impres-sion
for them to take back to
their home countries."
