VILLAGE CLERK HONORED. East Rockaway Village
Clerk Phyllis Rand was the recipient of the 1986 Gold Link
Award for her efforts on behalf of the youth of the commun-ity
at a Brunch held on Saturday, May 24 at the Howard
Johnson's Restaurant in Lynbrook. Congratulations Phyllis
on her aware are, from left to right: Lynbrook Village trus-tee
Leo "Bud" Lanning, East Rockaway Village Trustee
Anthony Santino, Lynbrook Mayor William Geier, East
Rockaway Trustee Irving Shaw, Lynbrook Deputy Mayor
Norman Dreyer and East Rockaway Trustee George Perry.
With June "bustin' out all
over" there is always such a
rush of activities that some-times
a special date is over-looked.
Of course this could
NEVER happen with East
Rockaway's Huckleberry
Frolic, but due to the fact
that the big event seems later
this year (it is always held on
the third Saturday in June),
just one or two persons
might forget and make
another date.
The Frolic is not just a fun
day, but the one and only
event that keeps the Grist
Mill Museum growing. This
year alone funds from past
Frolics have paid for many
repairs on the building as
well as sprucing up the
inside with paint and new
lighting. Our next aim is to
have some sort of sound sys-tem
so that the visitors may
learn about each exhibit as
they travel down the
memory lane of old Near
Rockaway. It will lake a lot
of "huckleberries" to make
that possible, but we're
optimistic.

Alumni Association Forming
Alumni of East Rocka-way
High School are urged
to attend an organizational
meeting to create a formal
Alumni Association on
Tuesday, June 24, 1986, at
7:30 p.m. at the Main Street
Firehouse.
An organizational plan
for the Alumni Association
will be decided upon, offic-ers
and Board members will
be elected, and ideas will be
sought from all present for
alumni activities to be con-ducted
in 1986-1987.
One plan under discusion
would call for an Alumni
Association headed by a
President, Vice President
(President-Elect), Record-ing
Secretary, Correspond-ing
Secretary, and Treas-urer.
In addition, there
would be an Executive
Board, consisting of the five
officers, plus ten at-large
members, a Newsletter Edi-tor,
and the Immediate Past
President.
A $5.00 annual member-ship
dues charge is under
consideration for a member-ship
year running from 9/1
to 8/31.
Tentative plans, subjeact
to confirmation or change at
the June 24 meeting, would
call for a "kick-off event in
the fall, followed by a major
fun-raiser in the spring of
1987.

Kogut Convicted
June 21!
By Mildred Roemer
announce that, hopefully,
one outcome of the wonder-ful
smash hit of Rock Rival-ry's
50th anniversary was
that an ERHS Alumni
A s s o c i a t i o n might be
formed. He hinted that the
group might be lending its
help toward future Frolics.
"Frolics and the Museum
itself" was my immediate
thought. For any group of
graduates to have put on
such a fantastic show as all
of those classes did; well,
know that "thar is gold (tal-ent)
in them thar, folks, "as
the classes of the Fifties
might have put it.
John D. Krull, Frolic
c h a i r m a n , and Emma
Tolmach, entertainment
chairman, have been work-ing
hard. The four restau-rants
in the village have once
more donated "dinner for
two" prizes for the raffle.
Ihe 5-inch TV and radio
combination, portable for
outdoor use or going away
on trips, has been pur-chased.
The generous res-taurants
are the East Point
Inn, Santinos, Ship's Inn,
and a newcomer the Canal
Street Cafe.
More on events next
week.

The man accused of mur-dering
16-year-old Theresa
Fuscoof Lynbrook has been
found guilty on two counts
of second-degree murder and
one count of first-degree
rape by a Nassau County
jury.
John Kogut of Island
Park faces a maximum jail
term of 33 1/3 years to life
when he is sentenced by
Judge John O'Shaughnessy
on June 27.
Theresa Fusco, a junior at
East Rockaway High
School, was gang-raped and
strangled in the Rocklyn
Cemetery in Lynbrook, just
across from Hot Skates,
where she was employe<|, in
Novemeber, 1984. Her nude
body was found in a wooded
area near the Long Island
Railroad tracks in Lyn-brook
the next month.
The key to the prosecu-tion's
case was a video-taped
confession that was played
at the trial, in which Kogut
admitted that he strangled
the girl after she had been
raped by two friends. He
said "We had to kill her."
Peter Henry Fund Receiving Donations
Peter Henry, a young
Lynbrook resident who
suffers from leukemia, has
been selected as the benefi-ciary
of this year's Jim
Jensen benefit softball
game, which will take place
at Greis Park on Tuesday
evening, June I7th.
Peter, who is 5'/2 years
old, must undergo a bone
marrow transplant, an
enormously expensive sur-gical
procedure. The trans-plant
is to be performed at
Johns Hopkins Hospital in
Maryland, one of only two
hospitals that performs this
type of surgical procedure.
The procedure itself takes 6
to 8 weeks to complete.
Please make plans to help
Peter Henry by attending
the benefit softball game
June 17th between Jim
Jensen's team and the May-or's
All-Stars. Donations
will be accepted at the game,
and refreshments will be
available for purchase with
all proceeds going to the
Peter Henry Fund to help
defray some of Peter's medi-cal
expenses.
Donations to the Peter
Henry Fund have already
started to come in. Dona-tions
will be continuously
accepted at the Village Hall
at 1 Columbus Drive, Lyn-brook,
New York 11563.
Checks should be made
payable to the "Peter Henry
Fund."
Come to the game June
17th and help a fellow resi-dent.
Game time for the Jim
Jensen Benefit Softball
game is 8:15 p.m. The Jim
Jensen game will be pre-ceded
by a softball game
between the ^.ynbrook All-
Stars and County Sports at
7 p.m.
YOU CAN HELP PETER. Proudly wearing his authentic
New York Mets baseball cap, Peter Henry invites Lynbrook
residents to the Jim Jensen Softball game Tuesday, June
17th at 8:15 p.m.
