Beautification Donations Made To Lynbrook

One of the interesting
highlights of the Board of
Trustees meeting of the Vil-lage
of Lynbrook held on
Monday, June 2, 1986 at 8
p.m. at Village Hall was the
donation of money for
f u r t h e r beautification of
Lynbrook by the Lynbrook
Chamber of Commerce and
Lynbrook Hardware in
celebration of its 50 year in
business. President Annette
Ling made the presentation
on behalf of the Chamber to
Mayor Geier for refurbish-ing
flowers in the flower bar-rels
given to the Village last
year.
Next on the agenda was a
Public Hearing on a Petition

Superintendent
Superintendent of Schools
B e r n S e i d e r m a n and
members of the Lynbrook
B o a r d ol E d u c a t i on
announce the appointment
of Dr. John Beyrer as
Assistant Superintendent in
the District. Dr. Beyrer, cur-rently
the principal at Lyn-brook
High School, suc-ceeds
Victor Rossetti, who
resigned his post earlier this
year.
The new Assistant Super-intendent
has served in the
high school for the past 16
years, as a guidance counse-lor,
chairman of the gui-dance
department and prin-cipal
since 1983. Respon-sible
for the implementaton
of the Regents Action Plan
at the school. Dr. Beyrer
also developed curriculum
in Advanced Placement
English, English as a Second
Language, High Sch.ool
Equivalency Preparation,
District Wide Guidance,
College Selection, SAT
Study Skills and Freshman
College Writing Programs.
Dr. Beyrer is the author ol
two widely used books deal-ing
with grammar and
usage. He is a member of the
Test Committee, Curricu-lum
Grant Committee, Dis-trict
Guidance Program,
English Task Force, High
School of the Future, Nine
Period Day, Supervision
and Evaluation Committee
and "Bridges" Committee

Schools. He is involved in
teacher training programs
sponsored by Columbia
University and the Peace
Corps, and responsible for
assignment, observation,
and evaluation of personnel
as master scheduler and
building administrator,

factor."

their building, which is 70%
in Valley Stream and 30% in
Lynbrook in regard to the
parking facilities. The prop-erty
is located on the east
side of Clinton Avenue and
south side on Railroad
Avenue. The extra property
required for the expansion
of the present building
would have a smaller total of
p a r k i n g s p a c e s then
required by Lynbrook's Vil-lage
Code. After hearing
arguments pro and con, the
Board reserved decision for
further study by the Board.
The Board of Trustees
accepted the resignation of
D e p u t y Village Clerk
Robert Barra, who is leaving
to join the staff of Senator
Dean Skelos as Public Rela-tions
Advisor.
Plans for the June 24
organizational meeting of
the proposed East Rock-away
High School Alumni
Association have been com-pleted
with the preparation
of a ten-item agenda,
according to an Alumni
Committee spokesperson.
Road Improvements
Slated For Bay Park

Dr. Beyrer is vice-president
of the Lynbrook Principals*
Association and Nassau
County Secondary School
Administrators Associa-tion.
He is an executive
board member of the Nas-sau
Counselors Association,
and a member of NASSP,
LICAC and NCTE.
Calling it "an honor to
have been selected," Dr.
Beyrer sees his new j ob as a
"tremendous challange, I see
it as a chance to work on a
district level with people and
programs." The new Assist-ant
Superintendent will
handle personnel, transfers,
task forces as well as curricu-lum.

Gulotta and Councilman
Eugene L. Weisbein today
announced plans initiated at
the request of community
residents for road improve-ment
work in the Bay Park
section of East Rockaway.
The work will be done as
part of the Town's multi-million
dollar Highway
C a p i t a l C o n s t r u c t i on
Program.
"With over 1200 miles of
Town roadways, an ongoing
program of maintenance
and renovation is impera-tive,"
Supervisor Gulotta
said. "Many of our area
roads were originally buih in
the 1950's and are in need of
r e s u r f a c i n g and other
improvements. The Town's
Highway Capital Construc-tion
Program will allow us
to remedy deteriorating
roadways and drainage sys-tems
throughout our Town-ship
on a timely basis."
The specific areas slated
for improvements in Bay
Park are:

repairs and road resurfacing
The Board passed a reso-lution
transferring $9,000 to
take care of Police Officer's
Gary Wahl enrollment in the
New York State Retirement
Fund System as required by
the Home Rule Law.
The Lynbrook Fire
Department was granted
permission to attend the
Southold, New York Parade
on July 7, 1986 with several
pieces of fire equipment.
Mayor Geier stated that
Engine Co. has gained pos-session
of an old piece of
equipment, a 1953 fire truck
that had been sold to a col-lector
and that they now
have a 1923 truck, a 1953
truck and their newest 1985
truck to show in the 75th
gala parade.
Mayor Geier explained
t h a t L y n b r o o k had a
$40,000 Consortiuno Grant
for the use of Senior Citizens
on East Boulevard.

Work is scheduled to
begin shortly and should be
completed by the Fall of this
year.

of construction efforts will
be undertaken to minimize
the disruptions caused area
residents and motorists. I

homeowners to remember
that any inconveniences will
be temporary but the result-ing
benefits and appearance
of the improvements will
more than offset any tem-porary
inconveniences,-

" R e h a b i l i t a t i n g our
infrastructure and system of
drainage will enable Town
government to modernize
and improve its services to
r e s i d e n t s , " commented
Councilman Weisbein. "A
responsive and responsible
local government helps
maintain the quality of life
we currently enjoy in the
Town of Hempstead."
The meeting is scheduled
for Tuesday evening, June
24, 1986, at 7:30 p.m. in the
Main Street Firehouse.
The company producing
the videotapes of the April
12 Alumni Celebration of
the 50th Anniversary of
Rock Rivalry, J HD Produc-tions
Ltd., has informed the
Alumni Committee that 116
orders had been accepted by
the May 15 ordering dead-line.
Production of the tapes
is expected to begin during
the week of June 9, 1986,
and the Handicapped to
refurbish their homes to
those who qualified for indi-v
i d u a l r e h a b i l i t a t i on
amounts. A portion of this
grant will be used to install
sidewalk special facilities at
the Lynbrook Library for
the handicapped. Those
who qualify can obtain
forms from the Village Clerk
for rehabilitation of their
homes.
All Bids were rejected on a
recent Sanitation Truck and
will be advertised once
again.
Police Chief Frank Kehr
is responsible for the dispo-sal
of abandoned cars in
Lynbrook and the official
designated Impound Garage
was Highway Auto Colli-sion
on Earle Avenue.
At the suggestion of
Police Chief Kehr, parking

LYNBROOK GOP. The Lynbrook Republican eleph^n-teers
gathered at the club's monthly meeting in June. Pic-tured
above are two of the elephanteers from (l-r) Republi-can
Club Leader Bob Becker and Club Secretary, Mary
Colway are joined by new members, Mary Claire Gill and
husband Don. As a result of the modeling of the elephan-teers
costumes, 44 members of the club were enlisted to
follow Minnie, the elephant, in the June 7th, 1986 parade
down Merrick Road. The club meeting in June, the last until
September 3rd, 1986, was hfohlighted by a barbeque and the
selection of the Basket of c^eer winner. As the meeting
closed, the membership was minded of the upcoming
campaign and the presentation plans. The next Republi-can
Club meeting will be held on /ednesday, September 3,
1986 at the American Legion Clubhouse, on Union Avenue.
All members of the public are cordially invited to attend.
