GULOTTA TAKESOATH OF OFFICE. Hempstead Pre-siding
Supervisor Thomas S. Gulotta takes the official oath
of office during induction ceremonies held at Town Hall in
Hempstead on January 7th. Gulotta was sworn into ofHce
by his father, Frank Gulotta (right) a former Nassau County
District Attorney. Also present for the ceremony were
Gulotta's family: his sons T.J. and Chris, and daughter
Elizabeth, and his proud wife, Betsy (holding bible).

elected and appointed offi-cials
was held at Town Hall,
Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavil-lion
on Tuesday, January
7th, 1986.
The induction ceremony
began with Town Council-man
Joseph G. Cairo, Jr.
leading the audience in the
P l e d g e of Allegiance.
According to law. Presiding
Supervisor Thomas Gulotta
convened the Board for a
formal meeting and several
r e s o l u t i o n s r e g a r d i ng
appointments were intro-duced
by Town Clerk Dan
Fisher. A motion to proceed
with the induction was then
approved.
The Rev. Monsignor
Edward Melton, Adminis-trator
of St. Agnes Cathed-ral
in Rockville Centre, gave
the invocation. Senior
Councilman Eugene Weis-bein
was the master of
ceremonies and introduced
County Executive Fran
Purcell, Controller Peter
King, Congressman Nor-man
Lent, and other guests.
Hon. Judge Leo McGinety,
a former Town Councilman
f r om Baldwin, inducted
Town Clerk Dan Fisher, Jr.
Dan's father held the bible.
Receiver of Taxes, Robert
Livingston, Jr. presented a
bouquet of roses to Mrs.
Fisher. Judge McGinety
then inducted Councilman
Martin B. Bernstein, Eugene
L. Weisbein, amd Richard
V. Guardino, Jr. Each
•Councilman made short
remarks regarding their
efforts on behalf of the

Town of Hempstead. The
highlight of Mr. Bernstein's
talk was his resolve to close
the Oceanside landfill and
make Oceanside and vicinity
secure areas for the resi-dents.
Councilman Cairo
presented flowers to Mrs.
Weisbein.
The Honorable James
Niehoff, also a former Town
Councilman, and an Assoi-ciate
Justice, Appellate Div-ision,
2nd Department,
inducted Supervisor Jim
Bennett. Councilman Gre-gory
P. Peterson presented
flowers to Mrs. Bennett.
Hon. Frank A. Gulotta,
former Presiding Justice,
Appellate Division of the
New York State Supreme
Court, was again given the
honor of inducting his son.
Presiding Supervisor Tom
Gullota. Councilman Joe
Mondello, in presenting
flowers to Betsy Gullota,
remarked that it should have
been gold bullion instead.
A prayer was offered by
the Rev. Dr. Arthur L.
Mackey, pastor of Mt. Sinai
Baptist Church of Roosevelt
and President of Nassau
Council of Black Clergy.
County Executive Francis
Purcell praised the excel-lence
of the Town of Hemp-stead
Board in his brief
remarks and projected a
banner year for 1986. He

J o s e p h Mondello who
spoke in his capacity of
Chairman of the Nassau
County Republican Com-mittee
and as Chairman of
the Town of Hempstead

School Auditorium.

Action Party invites all resi-dents
of East Rockaway to
a t t e n d its Annual Gala
Cocktail Party, to be held on
Sunday, January 19, 1986
from 3 pm to 7 pm.
As in years past, the party
will be held in the Grant
Avenue Firehouse. There
will be plenty of food and
lots of good company, and
this will be an excellent
chance to meet your neigh-bbrs
and friends.
The E.R.A. Party would
also like to remind everyone

Annual Dinner Dance, to be
held on Saturday, February
15 at the East Rockaway
Yacht Club. There will be an
open bar, dinner, dancing,
and much more, and the

The next planning meet-ing
is scheduled for Mon-day,
January 20, 1986, at
7:30 P.M. at the Main Street
Firehouse, and all alumni
and other supporters are
encouraged to attend. Spe-cific
numbers to be per-formed
from the various
decades are expected to be
identified at this meeting,
Edmund Power, Class of
1975, who will be directing
the over-all performance,
stressed the need for com-pleting
an over-all script as
soon as possible at a recent
planning session. The meet-ing
also resulted in a deci-sion
to ask the current
classes at East Rockaway
High School if they would
sell refreshments in the gym
after the performance on
April 12. "People will want a
chance to socialize after hav-ing
so many memories awa-kened,"
said Committee
member Pat Abut, Class of
1954.
Anniversary Celebration
Takes Shape
The Lynbrook 75th
Anniversary Committee
held a Chairmen's meeting
recently and announced that
the Committee has begun to
move ahead with plans for
the Village's 75th "birthday"
Celebration.
Plans for the Celebration
include a gala ball, home-town
parade, picnic and fair
(capped by a fireworks dis-play),
an open house at
Greis Park, a softball game
against Jim Jensen's All-
Stars, a children's fun run,
and a 6.2 mile roadrace.
A new Village seal is also
being selected from resi-dents'
entries, and an official
75th Anniversary Com-memorative
Journal is being
asembled.
Committee Co-Chairman
Gerry Matzen stated that
she is "exti-emely pleased
with the progress that has
been made, knd by the capa-bility
and efforts of the Sub-committee
Chairmen and
individual Subcommittee
members."

Lynbrook Continues To Beautify
The 4H Club of Lynbrook
has joined in to help the Vil-lage
of Lynbrook with its
committment to continually
beautify the Village.
, The 4H recently received
a.donation of spring bulbs
from the new "Simple Plea-sures
at Sunrise" store
located at 225 Sunrise
Highway. The 4H in turn
planted the bulbs at Village
pocket parks and at the Sun-rise
Highway welcome to
Lynbrook sign.
Since 1983 the Village of
Lynbrook has placed special
emphasis on beautification.
Over 175 new trees have
been planted by the Village,
on village streets, since 1983
while our parks and Village
Hall gardens have been re-planted.
The State of New
York has named Lynbrook
a "Tree City" because of its
continual tree planting
programs.
