sporlsfisherinan or a* boatsman because it is considered
a Mecca of those sports. It's located in Nassau County on the
South. Shore of Long Island at Uie parkway entrance to
famou? Jones Hcach. It is considered a model suburban type
<)>• comniuuitv with modern scliools, stores, beautiful liomes
- iMul about tiijrfy thou.s^nd residents. I'ls municipal administration
is headed by a flavor and a Board of Trustees.
Freeport was originally settled many years ago by early
Americans who liked' to, call themselves "clanncliggers" . . .
Then it'was known as "RaVnoryille" and sei-ved as the center
—uf all activity'for this section of Long Island.

One such prominent • Edifice of God 'is the Holy Redeemer
Roujan Catholic CJiurdli, whicli is located in the
heart of the Village of Freeport. Its Pastor is The Rt. Rev.
Monsignor John J. Malion, Besides many oilier activities,
it also*offers elementary grade education to hundreds of
children. It-'has one of the largest Parocliial school enrollments
in this area.
About two weeks ago, just as plans were being completed
for the 19o8 school rc-0]>cning, a mysterious fire
JjroKe out in tlie early hours of the morning, causing damage
to the autUtorium and to most of the badly needed classrooms.
About two-hundred and fitly volunteer firemen
from Freeport and the neighboring towns of Ualdwia,

first place trophies during the year.
