The East Rockaway High Sch-ool
Chapter of the National Honor
Society inducted new members on
March 30th before the entire
student body. To be chosen a
member of this select group, a
student must show outstanding
achievement in Character, Lead-ership,
Service and Scholarship
(an 85% average is required).
The inductees were chosen from
the senior and junior classes.
The seniors were: Kathleen Dunn,
Patricia Hayhurst, Barbara
Knox, John Parker, Penny Ru-bin,
Mary Schneider, and ^ruce
Solomon. The juniors were:
Leslie Howard, Fie Kearsley,
Jerry Yoswein, Nancy Smith, Ma-rion
Rogner, Dianne Hughes, John
Dever, Bruce Mello, Donato Tu-rilli.
As guest speaker. Superin-tendent
of Schools, Dr. William
K. Louis, addressed the assem-bly
urging all classes to strive
for the kind of excellence exam-plified
by National Honor Socie-ty
members. National Honor
J^ciety members represent the
elite of East Rockaway High Sch-ool.
Many hold offices of res-ponsibility
in school affairs;
some are athletes as well as
scholars. Honor groups of this
nature are a decided asset to
any high school and students
who earn such membership are
to be congratulated.

This week, in Malverne, Chief Vincent R. Ryer presented School Crossing Badges to the first ''Women's
Finest". Pictured (left to right) are Mrs. Emily Caronia of 83 Nottingham Road, Chief Ryer and Mrs.
Emilie Oberg of 70 Doncaster Road. The women School Crossing Guards began their tours of duty on
April 1st. At the present time Mrs. Obergwill be stationed at Lindner Place School and Mrs. Caronia at
Our Lady of Lourdes where her own child attends. This is the first time in tlie 32 years that Malverne
has been Incorporated that women have been hired on the force. Their uniforms will be two-tone.
