Malverne Scout Week Arrested
The Scout Week schedule in
Malverne will be as follows:
On February 7th at the Village
Board meeting, 8:30 p.m., Mayor
William Sheeser will proclaim
February 7th through 13th as
Scout Week in Malverne.
February 8th is the 58th An-niversary
of Boy Scouts of A-merica.
All Cub.Scouts and Boy
Scouts should wear their uni-f
o rm to school to celebrate
Scouting's Birthday.
The Scout Sabbath will be ob-served
at an All Faith Service
at the Malverne Jewish Center,
8:15 p.m. Friday, February 9th.
Cubs and Scouts in full uniform
gather on the lower level at
8 p.m.
February 10th will be Scout
Government Day, 10 a.m. in the
VUlage Hall. Elected Scouts
acting as Village Officers will
conduct a Village Board Meeting.
All Cubs, Scouts, Scouters, par-ents

ERA FIRST
BIRTHDAY
With nearly 200 residents in at-tendance,
East Rockaway's
"ERA" Party celebrated i t s f i r s t
anniversary with an open
meeting, held on January 30th,
at the Grant Avenue Firehouse.
Dispensing with formal bus-iness
matters, the evening's
activities were highlighted by
David Lench, Consulting Village
Attorney, who outlined the his-tory
of the party, its past
successes, current activities and
plans for the future. Short wel-coming
addresses were pre-sented
by Mayor Winfred Berg
and Trustee Abe Rosenthal, fol-lowed
by and introduction of the
party candidates in the forth-coming
Village election, Trustee
Arnold E. White and Village Court
Justice Waiter B. Bergner.
The evening concluded on a
social note, with a drawing for
door prizes, and the ceremonial
cutting of a special birthday cake.
For Murder
An Intensive Police Investi-gation
has resulted in the a r r e st
of three men for the December
29, 1967 shooting murder ofMrs,
Gertrude Kaplan of Valley Stream
at her desk in the Lesco Lamp
Company Office at 650 Merrick
Road, Lynbrook, At about 4:30
P.M. on that date, two men en-tered
the office of the Lesco Lamp
Co, confronting the President of
the Company David Levine and
announced a holdup. Two other
employees were in the office and
Mrs, Kaplan was sitting at her
desk, Mr. Levine gave the holdup
men money f r om his pocket and at
this point one of the holdup men
fired his gun, the bullet striking
Mrs, Kaplan causing her death.
After questioning over 1000 p e r -
sons and investigating much in-formation
contributed by citizens,
detectives of the homicide and
robbery squads of the Nassau
County Police a r r e s t e d three men
on Friday and Saturday for
murder. Chief Walter F, Waring
of the Lynbrook Police Depart-ment
commended the members of
the detective division of tJie Nas-sau
County Police for their d i l i -
gence and dedication in pursuing
the investigation to a successful
conclusion, also for the coopera-tion
displayed between the two de-partments
during the investiga-tion.
The three subjects were a r -
raigned before IDistrict Court
Judge Bernard Thomson and held
without baU, David Glover, 23,
of 334 Kingsland Ave, Bronx,
a formeY employee and Kenneth
Coram 19, and Melvin Johnson,
21, of Jamaica were charged with
murder.

NO MORE SIRENS
The first monthly Village
Board Meeting of Lynbrook was
held on Monday evening, Feb, 5,
1968 at the Municipal Building
on Merrick Road.
After a reading of the minutes
the rollcall and the Mayor's wel-come
to the local citizens etc.,
present at the meeting the regu-l
a r business proceeded.
The F i r e Department request-ed
the use of G r e i ' s Field for a
Tournament to be held on July
6th and 7th, Their request was
granted.
The Board voted in favor of
granting a permit for a new gas
station to be built on Sunrise
Highway, Scranton Avenue and
Roger Avenue,
There will be no more siren
heard at 7 A Jvl, and 12 Noon voted
upon in a resolution from the
Board due to many complaints,
Greis Field will be taxed for
the first time by the County
of Nassau because it is New
York City property and leased
to the Village of Lynbrook, The
tax will probably amount to about
$3500,
The Building Department sub-mitted
their monthly report to
the Board,
A contract was awarded f o r the
new Fire Department Headquar-t
e r s Building on Wright Avenue
to the Pat Ricippio Contrartors.
The meeting was marked by
the general pleasant atmosphere,
remarks from the floor, etc, and

Molyneaux, 20, son of James
Molyneaux, 145 Broadnay,Lyn-brook,
N,Y. recently arrived near
Due Pho, Vietnam, with the
Americal Division's 11th Light
Infantry Brigade,
Before reaching Vietnam, he
received extensive jungle t r a i n -
ing in Hawaii, The division is
currently in combat against
the enemy.
