Dr. Herbert F, Fisher, new
President of the famed Lyn-brook
Lion»s Club is a former
native of Brooklyn, N.Y. where
he spent all of his earlier
years until adulthood. His
beloved father and mother,
Aaren and Sophie are still
happily living in the Flatbush
section of Brooklyn, right in
the shadow of the old Ebbet's
field. He has one sister, Sylvia,
now Mrs, Harold Shore of Pough-keepsie,
N.Y.
Dr. Fisher attended public
schools in Brooklyn, and
graduated from Erasmus High
School, and then the College
of the City of New York. He
then graduated from the Uni-versity
of Pennsylvania Dental
School.
He served in the U. S. Army
in World War II, in the Pacific
Theatre of War in many islands,
in Hawaii, Japan, and the Phil-lipines.
He was married to the former
Roslyn Willbach in 1944. His
attractive wife, a very vivacious
and talented lady were sweet-hearts
in the 7th Grade and
dated from the ages of 15 and
sixteen years of age. She is
an excellent cook and a wonder-ful
wife, according to the best
source, her devoted husband.
The one quite outstanding thing
about this quiet and reserved
gentleman is his close relation-ship
with his beloved only child,
Stuart, age 22. Stuart just
graduated from Yale University,
Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta
Kappa, majoring in Pyschology.
He will do graduate work on a
grant from the University of
Illinois aiming for his eventual
doctorate in his chosen field.
Stuart is a tall, handsome, blonde
young man of rugged athletic
build, who is also a graduate
of Lynbrook High School. Dr.
Fisher is so proud of him and
so happy about their close and
meaning relationship that he
mentioned that there was no age
gap or generation gap at all,
in his closeness to his son, and
that they are so much alike, that
often they think the same thing
•simultaneously. The high point
of Dr. Fisher's life to date has
been the graduation of his son,
Stuart from Yale, and the
thrilling moments when he
realized that his son had reached
such a high point in his studies
and had done so well.
Dr. Fisher is 5 ft., 9 1/2 in.
tall with a rather athletic build,
hazel eyes, and graying wavy
hair and a quite distinguished
air. He plays golf for the
exercise, but refused to re-veal
his score and likes to
relax with a good book more
then anything else. He is a
definite introvert with a great
sense of humor and loves people
and his work and his definite
involvement with the Lynbrook
Lion's Club for the past twenty-two
years and the many life-time
good friends he has made
in that time in this area. He
and his wife enjoy both Chinese
and Italian cooking, but his own
personal favorite is one of
Nathan's hot dogs smothered in
Dr. Herierf F. Fisher
sauerkraut and mustard. He
is a very human and kindly
type of man, witty and well
read and very knowledgeable
about all world affairs. Dr.
and Mrs, Fisher enjoy traveling
and have been on cruises, and
visited Mexico. He mentioned
that one of their most enjoyable
vacations had been out West,
right here in the United States,
which has the most spectacular
and beautiful scenery of any other
place in the World.
Dr. Fisher, known to his
Lion cronies as "Doc" Fisher
truly exemplifies the fine spirit
of Lionism when he spent a
good fifteen minutes of this
interview extolling the fine
accomplishments of the im-mediate
Past-President of the
Lion's, Charles Schneider and
the fine job he had done as
Lion President of the club.
The Lion's had pledged a total
of $7,500 to South Nassau Com-munities
Hospital to be donated
in a period of five years, and
under the capable direction of
Charles Schneider, the total
amount had been raised in
just one year. He has found
being a Lion one of the most
worthwhile things in his life,
and is himself a perfect ex-ample
of the dedicated local resi-dent
who raises so much money
for charity in a service club
such as the Lion's and enjoys
the comradeship of* his fellows
in their weekly meetings when
so many worth while things
are accomplished. They serve
their community and their
fellow citizens year after year,
each man taking responsibility
for accomplishing the different
projects which reach fruitful
culminations with the total
cooperation of each and every
one of them.
Dr. and Mrs, Fisher are
residents of Flint Rd., East
Rockaway for over twenty-five
years andy he is a member of
Heritage Lodge B'Nai B'Rith and
it's President for over years.
He is a member of the East
Rockaway Board of Trade and
the American Legion Post No.
