Garden City met March at
an impromptu but emergency
conference requested by Mayor
Francis X, Becker of Lynbrook,
Co-Vice Chairman appointed by
Mayor Terreberry of Kenmore,
New York, to attempt to obtain
the united support of village
mayors on Long Island with r e -
spect to revisingthe present rev-enue
sharing program passed by
Governor Rockefeller and the
New York State Legislature at the
1970 session.
The mayors reviewed what
steps should be taken to bring

as compared to the Village of
Lynbrook, with a population of
23,500, rendering services to
its residents similar to the serv-ices
rendered by Glen Cove, and
w i l l obtain approxim ately
$135,000 under the revenue shar-ing
program. Mayor Becker r e -
ported that the up-State mayors
were meeting with Mayor Terre-berry.
It was proposed that an
amendment be made to the
present revenue sharing plan,
whereby the distinction between
cities and villages would be e -
liminated, and revenue sharing
would be based on density of pop-ulation
and types of fiscal serv-ices
rendered by each type, of
municipality. Thus, "windfalls"
would be eliminated to certain
municipalities andthere would be"
a greater sharing of such reve-
