LONG ISLAND WATER COR-PORATION
FILES WITH THE
PUBLIC SERVICE COM-MISSION
FOR NEW WATER
RATES
LYNBROOK, N.Y., May 1 -
Long Island Water Corporation
filed today with the Public Ser-vice
Commission in Albany,
N.Y., a request to amend the
current water rates charged to
the utility's more than 69,000
customers in its 26-town service
area in southwestern Nassau
County.
The proposed amended water
rates, with a requested effective
date of June 1,1972, will provide a
14.5 per cent increase amounting
to an increase of $1,176,000 in the
Company's revenues from all
water sales, hydrant and other
water services.
- Increase Needed to Provide
Improved Water QualKy -
- And to Cover Rising Costs -
Long Island Water Corporation
is seeking the additional
revenues to provide its customers
with additional water quality
improvements, as well as meet
the rising costs connected with
maintaining adequate water
supply. The water quality im-provement
alone will cost an
estimated $1,000,000 over a five
year period.
The increased rate structure
will allow the Company to meet
the rising taxes assessed against
its property, and cover the in-creased
costs of labor, materials
and additional construction. The
proposed increase will enable the
Company to procure, on
reasonable terms, such ad-ditional
capital as it may require
to operate efficiently, and to
