Mrs. Oominick M. Minerva, supreme patrons of the annual St. An-thony's
Feast In Lynbrook. chat with Vito Proscia of Oceanside, feast

of St. Anthony, at the feast which was sponsored by the St. Anthony's
Italian Benevolent Society Inc. Minerva, a Valley Stream village
trustee, and his wife were chosen as supreme patrons because of
"their commitment to the best interests of the Italian community and
the community at large."
Levitt has volunteered much of
his time and service to the field of
recreation, especially in the area
of youth programs. Since 1962 he
has sponsored baseball teams,
winter and summer basketball
teams, as well as lacrosse and
football. Levitt has served as
both president of the Lynbrook
Chamber of Commerce and as a
member of its Board of Direc-tors.
Through his leadership in
these capacities, he always
stressed the importance of
getting involved with the youth of
the community. As a result the
Chamber has been a cosponsor of
the Recreation Commission's
Easter program for ten years.
Aside from working with youth,
Levitt has worked with many
adult programs for the Lynbrook
community. These programs
include an adult Softball team in
the Recreation Commission's Slo-
Pitch Softball League which he
has sponsored for three years. He
also sponsored a semi-pro
baseball team for ten years.
The citation was presented to
Levitt at Greis Park during
"Celebration of Lynbrook" week
by Edwin V. Larson, chairman of
the Recreation Commission, and
Francis X. Becker mayor of the
Village of Lynbrook.

the area of youth programs.

award on behalf of the village at
the meeting of Police Chief's
Association. Trustee Bill O'Brien
stated that he was present at the
conference and meeting of the
Police Chief's Assoc. and that
Chief Waring is looked upon as a
leader of the group and in fact,
has been head of it in the past.
The plaque will be placed on
display in the main lobby of the
Village Hall. The first Youth
Volunteer Executive Assistant to
the Mayor was sworn into office
after an introduction by the
Mayor, who' stated that this
young resident had already
started to be service in counting
the number of defaced signs and
buildings in the village which
have 1974 and 1975 and other
graffetti scrawled all over some
areas. The able new Assistant is
Michael Leese who was ac-companied
to the meeting by Mr.
Gene Scarpato of the Lynbrook
Recreation. This is the first such
volunteer and the first such post
in the village. He will be a special
assistant for Youth Affairs.
Fire Chief Walter Brooks gave
the fire Dept. Report for May
which included 57 ambulance and
rescue calls, 15 Chiefs letters
and attendance and training in
the advanced category for many
departments or companies at the
Bethpage Training School.
Mayor Becker suggested that
each Trustee attend at least one
meeting of the training school
especially one in which they must
enter a burning building. This
was taken under advisement by
some members of the Board but
Chief Brooks will make meeting
dates available for the Trustees.
Our able new Superintendant of
Public Works, Reginald Pilling
gave his first report for May with
comparison checks for the
previous year. There were 847
tons of refuse collected, 797 tons
of Rubbish, 570 f e c i a l Stops to
collect large discarded home
items, 452 street sweepings, 84
signs replaced, 15 new signs put
up and 184 posts painted and so
on. The amoung of work done by
the capable men from the D. P.
W. is enormous and seems to
increase from year to year. They
are to be commended for the fine
job they always do.
Mr. Richard Koch, of the
Library Board read the Lynbrook
Library Report for May which
listed a total of 563 new adults
registered and 563 Juvenile
Readers registered with a total
registration of 8300 residents.
There were 346 new books pur-
Annette Ling
chased with a total registration of
books, periodicals, and recording
etc. of 7600.
Mayor Becker requested that
Mr. Koch try to find out what the
peak total registration had been
in former years and Deputy
Mayor Kurt Arndt asked Mr. Koch
if he realized that the climbing
ivy which is beginning to cover
the walls of the exterior of the
library would eventually force
the bricks apart and do extensive
damage. It was suggested that
the D. P. W. remove or cut back
the ivy to prevent this.
There were bid openings for a
Fire Dept. Utility Truck and they
were opened up at 8:15 p.m. and
duly read and noted. They will be
turned over to the Fire Com-mittee
for further evaluation and
study before final determination.
