Mr. and Mrs. Moinester were
given official notification by Vice
Admiral Edwin B. Hooper who is
the director of naval history ^nd
curator for the Navy Depart-ment.
In his letter he cited the
heroic action of Lt. Moinester in
the City of Hue, Vietnam, and
informed his parents that this is
the first naval vessel named in
honor of a member of a Naval
Support Activity in Vietnam.
Minerva Decries
Name Calling
Republican Assembly can-didate
Dominick M. Minerva
today expressed regret that his
Democratic opponent, John
Thorp, has resorted to the
irresponsible name calling
tactics utilized by the head of his
party's ticket. Senator George
McGovem.
"It was apparent from his most
recent remarks that my opponent
is panicking under the pressure
of the campaign" Minerva said.
His public display of ill temper
serves only demean the office of
Assemblyman. Thorp erupted
after Minerva sent a letter to the
30,000 homes in thp 19th
Assembly District in which he
accused Thorp of failing to speak
out against his party's national
and county platforms which call
for forced busing of school
children and the construction of
high rise Pow-income housing.
Minerva said that he was
pleased that his opponent has
now publically disavowed his
party's platform. In addition, he
said, "I hope he will disavow
Senator George McGovern before
election day."
The DE-1097, which will be
named "MOINESTER" is under
construction in the Avondale
Shipyards in Westwego,
Louisiana. Admiral Hooper told
the Moinesters that they will be
kept advised concerning the
ship's ceremonial milestones of
launching and commissioning.
He concluded his letter by saying
"All in the Navy will take great
pride in having the namesake of
your gallant son join the active
Fleet."
In responding to the Admiral,
Mr. and Mrs. Moinester ex-pressed
their appreciation for
"this great honor." The letter
stated "I'm sure that all his
gallant shipmates of Naval
Support Activity will be
justifiably proud to share in this
singular recogniton of their
valiant contribution to the Navy's
role in Vietnam."
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Moinester,
It is a pleasure to inform you
that the Secretary of the Navy
has assigned the name
MOINESTER to the escort ship
DE-1097 in tribute to the memory
of your late son. Lieutenant (j.g.)

Lynbrook
Board Meeting
Annette Ling
The Lynbrook Board of
Trustees held a brief meeting on
Monday evening, at 8:00 p.m.,
Oct. 2,1972 at the Village Hall in
Lynbrook.
Mayor Francis X. Becker
presiding at the meeting
congratulated Paul Ortt of 504
Merrick Rd. who was sworn into
office as Lynbrook's 23rd active
Auxiliary Policeman. The
Auxiliary force now has the use of
2 new Auxiliary Patrol cars and
do a fine job in assisting the
regular force in patrolling
Lynbrook's streets and on other
special duties.
There was some detailed
examination of the prob^ible cost
of obtaining and installing new
pre-emtors to the new computer-controlled
traffic lights on
Sunrise Highway at Horton Ave.
and at other necessary places in
the Village of Lynbrook where
they were removed by the con-tractor
installors used by New
York State when the new com-puterized
system was put into
effect in Lynbrook. Chief Walter
Brooks of the Lynbrook Fire
Dept. had a quote of $5,500
per unit and in information
supplied by former Fire Chief
Pat Cestone it seems that the cost
can be remarkably lower if the
department waits until April
when a new contractor in the
computer maintenance may be
signed.
The Board approved the
signing of a new contract for stray
dog seizure by the Town of
Hempstead Dog Catcher at a cost
of $9 per dog which includes the
stray dog's maintenance at the
Town Animal Shelter or Pound.
Mayor Becker issued an offic-ial
Proclamation of National
Catholic Daughters Week in
Lynbrook and praised the work of
the local branch, the Court of St.
Raymond of the Catholic
Daughters for their wonderful
work through the years.
The Board had no due bills and
the meeting closed at an early
hour because Mayor Francis
Becker had to attend an im-portant
conference of village
officials in Malverne on the tax-revenue
sharing plan in which
Lynbrook and Mayor Becker, in
particular has led the fight to
obtain a fairer portion of New
York State taxes for incorporated
villages. At the present time
cities get a much larger share of
state revenue. *
LYNBROOK COMMUNITY DAY: Congressman John W. Wydler of
the Fifth Congressional District (right) discusses federal matters at
the Lynbrook Post Office with Martin Seltzer (left) and Martin's
father, Harold Seltzer, both of 83 Canterbury Gate, Lynbrook. The
congressman visited the post office so he could meet personally with
residents to discuss any questions they had in relation to federal
legislation or Fifth Congressional District matters.
On Oct. 3, 1972, The Veterans of Foreign Wars represented by Commander Kronenberg and Past
Commander James Dillon, presented the good tenants of Nathan Hale Housing with two American
Flags for their recreation rooms. Officers of the "Nathan Hale Social Club" received the flags for
their fellow tenants. L to R in picture, James Brady, Anthony Zarba. George Bedell, James Dillon,
