Youth to participate
in government today
A group of more than 100
youths, recruited from all over
Nassau County, is poised to take
over Nassau County on April 26.
There's no revolution in the air,
however. It's just the annual
observance of Career Day in
Nassau County, the day on which
student leaders substitute for
County officials and "run" the
government ... at least for a few
hours.
Sponsored by the Nassau
County Boys and Girls Week
Committee, headed by attorney
James N. MacLean and Jericho
Schools Superintendent David
Nydick, Career Day is an op-portunity
for students to observe
the workings of government fir^it
hand -- and to take a stab at
running the whole show.
A highlight of the day will be a
mock meeting of the Nassau
Board of Supervisors beginning
at 9 a.m. The students will con-sider
a seven-item agenda
running the gamut from con-struction
of storm water drains to
disposition of surplus moneys
from dog license fees.
Following the mock board
meeting the students will move
on to a department of the county
in which they are most interested
and observe and participate in
the daily workings of govern-ment.
At noon the students will
convene in the Nassau Supreme
Court Building, for a seminar on
the justice system in Nassau, to
be presided by Justice Mario
Pittoni.
The boys and girls who have
been selected to play the parts of
the County Executive, the six
members of the Board of
Supervisors, the County Attorney
and the County Comptroller will
be invited to sit with their
government counterparts during
an actual meeting of the Board of
Supervisors today, Monday.

Margiotta To Chair Scout Council Dinner
Commendation
Awarded To
Reese Bros. Inc.
A gold seal of commendation
has been awarded by the
Automobile Club of New York to
Reese Bros., Inc. for its con-tinued
participation in the High
School Driver Education
Program at the Lynbrook
Malverne & East Rockaway High
Schools.
"This will be the 8th year we
have provided a dual-control
Dodge's to the schools. We
consider this investment our
contribution toward reducing the
traffic accident toll," Harold
Reese Jr. vice-president of the
dealership said.
In announcing the award,
Gilbert B. Phillips, Auto Club
President, praised Mr. Reese for
his "outstanding community
service."
Studies by the Department of
Motor Vehicles show that
students taking a driver
education course have 22 percent
fewer accidents and 50 percent
fewer violations than those who
have not received such in-struction.
The High School Driver
Education Program was
pioneered by the AAA in 1936.
Students receive basis in-struction
in classroom and
behind-the-wheel instruction in a
dual control car.
Assemblyman Joseph M.
Margiotta has been named
Chairman of the First Annual
Dinner of the Nassau County
Council of Boy Scouts of
America, James Davenport,
Executive Director of the Nassau
Council has announced. The
dinner is scheduled to be held
June 28th at Leonard's of Great
Neck, and more than 1,000 are
expected to attend the $100 a-plate
dinner.
The dinner is being held to help
the Nassau Council of Boy Scouts
raise funds to alleviate an
operating deficit and to insure the
continuation of all the scouting
programs for young boys in the
county, according to Margiotta.
Margiotta, a former boy scout,
said that he was "honored" to
have been asked to head such a
worthy fund raising affair. "The
Boy Scout movement has been an
inspiration to millions of young
men, including myself, and I'm
only to happy to be able to help
after all the fine experiences Boy
Scouting afforded me as a young
man growing up in Nassau," he
said.
