Senate Hearings
On Sewage Sludge
United States Senator James L.
Buckley, ranking minority
member of the Senate Committee
on Environmental Pollution of
the Senate Public Works Com-mittee,
will preside over a public
hearing of that Committee on the
problems resulting from sewage
sludge now being dumped into
the Atlantic Ocean in the vicinity
of Long Island beaches. The
hearing, which will be open to the
public, will be held in the Marine
Dining Room, West Bathhouse,
Jones Beach, starting at 9:30 in
the morning on Friday, August 2,
1974, and continuing into the late
afternoon.
Interested groups and in-dividuals
desiring additional
information are invited to con-tact

Lions Club To
Sponsor Blood Drive
The Lions Clubs of Nassau
County will sponsor a month long
blood drive entitled
"OPERATION: SUMMER
DANGER GAP", in cooperation
with the Inter-County Blood
Services located at 222 Sunrise
Highway, Rockville Centre, L.I.,
beginning Monday August 5th at
9:30 A.M.
Donors may donate daily at
any of the locations listed below
from 9:30 A.M to 5:30 P.M. Tours
will be given at the Rockville
Centre Facilities each day of the
drive and is opened to the public -
free of charge.
The official kickoff and tour
will be August 5th at the Rock-ville
Centre office at 2 P.M. Many
State, County and Local Public
Officials, Lions, Radio, T.V. and
Newspapers are expected to be
on hand.
Last year, the Nassau Lions
raised over 1850 pints of blood
which helped numerous
Hemophiliac, Lukemeia and
Sickle Cell Anemia victims.
During the summer months,
the Nations' blood supply
becomes exhausted and
Hemophiliacs like Richard
Trestead and other blood related
diseased victims suffer severely.
Many operations are postponed,
with only life and death cases
handled.'
As a point of information
anyone who donates a pint of
blood will be insured with
UNLIMITED BLOOD coverage
for one year for himself, his
spouse, his children under 19
years, and Parents and Grand-parents
on both sides of the
family.
Recruiting Drive Summer Report From Troop 1515
Recruiting Drive for Civil Air
Patrol
The Nassau Composite
Squadron Two of the Civil Air
Patrol, an Auxiliary of the U.S.
Air Force, is seeking new
members for its Cadet Aerospace
Program, ages 12 through 18 and
Senior members for its Search
and Rescue Unit, ages 21 and up.
For those interested in joining
this action packed Aerospace
Team, the unit meets on Thur-sday
night at 7:30 in North Valley
Stream High School, 750 Herman
Avenue, Franklin Square, New
York.
SUMMER ACTIVITY REPORT
FROM TROOP 1515, BOY
SCOUTS OF AMERICA,
SPONSORED BY THE LYN-BROOK
ELK LODGE 1515
BPOE, LYNBROOK, N.Y.
The troop under the able
leadership of Scoutmaster Albert
Zani of Lynbrook and his
assistant William Karvecky, had
a very successful trip into the
countryside along the Delaware
River. The trip was started on the
morning of June 28 and they
returned home to Lynbrook in the
late afternoon of the 30th of June.
The troop camped overnight in
tents, prepared meals outdoors,
hiked along the River, fished in
the River, and then the whole
troop embarked in canoes for an
exciting trip downstream in the
rapids of Skinner's Falls.
The troop has >een making
plans for another summer jaunt
but cannot give definite dates due
the vacation schedule of troop
members families which are
prevalent at this time of year.
The troop members present on
the above mentioned trip were;
Derrick Burns, Michael
DeAmicis, Billy Karvecky, Jerry
Troha, and Ralph Zani.

retiring president; Mrs. Lee Ward, retiring chairman of the Com-mittee
on Hospital Auxiliaries of the Hospital Association of New York
State; Mrs. Daphne Scher, the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council's
incoming president; and Ms. Barbara Cleveland, Assistant Director
of Hospital Auxiliary Services of the Hospital Association of New York
State.
FIRST MEETING: Hempstead Town Presiding Supervisor Francis T. Purcell [center] discusses his
views and support for a major sports stadium on Long Island when he was a guest speaker at the first
meeting of the Long Island Affairs Committee of the Long Island Association. Joining him are Frank
Garvey, [left] president and Mario Posillico, chairman of the LI A luncheon held at the Holiday Inn,
Hempstead. Purcell expressed his convictions that L.I. would support major league football and
baseball teams at the meeting of local officials and businessmen.
