By a most happy coincidence the chiming of the Freeport chureh bells last Monday morning at 7 o'clock an¬ nounced the birth of a handsome baby girl at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cples Carpenter of Continental avenue. Mother and daughter are doing nicely; father is the happiest man in Roosevelt.
About thirty members ot the Roosevelt Fire Department attended Nassau Firemen's tournament at Oyster Bay, October 20th, including Chief Wm. F. Pearsall, John J. Bost¬ on, Charles Epple, Jack McCaffrey, Wm. Fields, Henry Dahann, Royal Mollineaux, Fred Mollineaux, Samuel Abrams, Bert Cravoiserat, Harry and Walter Cravoiserat, "Pop" Andrews, Robert Ramsbottom, Philip Marino and Everett Smith. Walter Cravois¬ erat was winner of the second prize in the individual ladder climbing con¬ test, time, flix seconds; one of the events of the afternoon. A collision between the large truck conveying the local boys and the apparatus of
the Woodmere Company just outside of Oyster Bay in the morning threat¬ ened for a moment thc day's pleasure, but the damage was slight.

evening about dusk when John Mam- mier of Brooklyn, driver of the large auto truck owned by the Pittsburgh Plato Glass Company, feil from the seat and was crushed by tlie on-com¬ ing machine. John Atammier, wlio.'ie identity became known on Wednes¬ day, had just linished installing sev¬ eral plates of glass and was on his way toward New York City. He was rushed to Nassau Hospital at Mineola where examination showed him to be in a very seriou.s condition. He is not expected to live.
