PRES. RANDALL'S ANNUAL REPORT
Continued from Page One.
ment up to the highest point of per¬ fection.
The board was very much inclined to place either one of these in the bud#;ct but unfortunately tB^ Firo Council could not agree as to which was the more necessary and the Board did not feel that both should be included. No doubt both proposi¬ tions will be submJtted by petition for the taxpayers to determine whet¬ her they desire either or both of these.
A conservative value of the prop¬ erty of the Flre Department exceeds $40,000.
I do not need to refer to tin other
I departments of the V'iliage except to I say that they are all in a good heal¬ thy condition. Assessments of prop- 1 erty were never more equitably made j or more accurately described. The as.-iessuienl map is becoming more complete each year.
The claim of Mr. John E. Golding for services as Village Treasurer, which has been a matter of dispute for over 5 years has been amicably seettled and paid. «
The amount of sidewalks is in¬ creasing each year and considerable attention has been given lo connect¬ ing up missing links and making some of the bad walks passable. There is, however, much more that can be done along this line.
The cjtimated budget of expenses to be raised by taxation for the com¬ ing year as advertised wilh the Treasurer's financial statement is $54,121.88 which is $11,835.00 less than the budget of the past year. If the propositions No. 1 to No. 5, sub¬ mitted by the Board should be car¬ ried it would increase the budget only $1500.00 and -itlll be $10335.00 lo¬ wer than last year. This should lower the tax rate 21 cents making it $1.04 per $100.00 of assessment. If other propositions .submitted by pe¬ tition ure voted, the tax rate would be increased about 2 cents for each $1000.00 voted to be raised by tax¬ ation.
As a proposition was carried last March requiring registration of vo¬ ters, it was necessary to divide the Village for this election into two dis¬ tricts, it being a physical Impossi¬ bility for over 1300 to cast their bal¬ lots in one polling place where reg¬ istry lists have to be consulted and signed by each voter. This will add between $200^0 *and $300.On to the cost of conducting the election, but the Board has no option In the mat¬ ter, as the proposition was carried by a majority of the voters at the last Village election. Whether the bene¬ flt derived from thjs change wHl be material is a matter of conjecture.
I wish in closing to express my ap¬ preciation of the hearty co-operation given me by my fellow members of the Board of Trusjteos and of all of the employees of the Village and of the public generally. There nerer has been a greater spirit ot harmony than that prerailing during the i^asc year. I feel sure that you aa tax-
