At the trial on Saturday, In Bell¬ more, Prof. Raymond E. Hlllon of the Smithville South school, defendant In an action of assault brought by Mrs. Isabelle Boyce for striking her boy, Alexander, was acquitted.
The Democratic husking bee and barn dance which was held on Sat¬ urday. Nov. 20, was a big success. Some of the most prominent people bf lhe surrounding villages were present and all enjoyed a sociable evening. The dancing lasted until 2 a. m. Some of those present were Democratic Leader Jolin J. Bedell, Nicholas Meyer and family, Leander Brown and family, Walter Klrsch and fam¬ ily, Cliarle.s Flrsch and family; Rob¬ ert Flrsch, L. J. Odell, foreman of the Smithville South Flre Company; Geo. R. Northam of Babylon, Postmaster James Odell of Smithville South, and a number of others. Mr. Horn and Mr. Edwards acted aa deputies and It was a most enjoyable eveuing. Ice tream and refreshments were served.

The efforts Inaugurated by William Barnes white state chairman to get the Republican State committee out of debt by creating a susiaiaing mem¬ bership, according to an announce¬ ment yesterday, have proved success¬ ful. With all Its obligations met, the committee has a balance of |12,661 in its treasury.
The report of A. M. White, treas¬ urer of the Republican State Com¬ mittee, which has been flled with the Secretary of State at Albany, shows that for the period of Nov. 20, 1914, to Nov. 20, 1915, there was received from all contributors, including sus¬ taining members, the sum of $56,750. The expenditures for the same period were $.'>!,232. There was a balance lof a little more than $7,000 on hand 'at the beginning of the period.
