Editor's Statement,
The omission of several words in the front page obituary ot Mrs. Cath¬ erine J. Smith In last week's issue of the paper caused an inconsistency of statement which was most re¬ grettable.
Those who bave been privileged to enjoy the fellowship of ACrs. Smith kn^ full w«ll the tender deyotion ot her constant companion. Miss Hattie R. Smith. The paragraph should have read:
"The heartfelt sympathy of this 'Community is exteuded to her de¬ voted and .bereaved son, Hiram R. Smith, and to her most faithful and bosom companion. Miss Hattie R. Smith. During the long period of Mrs. Smith's illness and at a period when she needed the companionship of a tender, noblehearted, untiring associate. Miss Smith has never failed to comfort and cheer her. Their friendship has been sweet and de¬ voted."
An Important change In original plane for a sewage disposal plant in the New York State School of Agri¬ culture, Farmingdale, L. I,, has been announced by the Briante Construc¬ tion Company, which has the con¬ tract for this work. Under the or¬ iginal contract the cost of the plant was to be $44,000, but it was de¬ cided that the electric machinery called for too great an expenditure and would be hardly economical after it had been Installed.
The Imhoff tank, with the chlorine treatment system, was decided upon as being cheaper to Install and more economical to operate. The installa¬ tion of this system, it was shown, would save the State |9,000 and a big reduction over the other system in the cost of upkeep. It is said that the Imhoff system is in use in Essen, Germany, the location ot the grtat Krupp gun works. Atter the various processes have been used, it is said that the fluid matter is about 98 per cent, pure.
