The first game was play.?d at Rock- ,ille eCntre where it was conceded the 'acai players bad the advantage. The score was 22 to 24.
The return game on V»'ednesday was looked forward* to with considerable anticipation. The Hempstead qnlnict, rt was expected, would turn the tables. But there was another whirlwind f-iart 'jy the home team, and another whirl¬ wind finish ty tbie \i.-itors. And Rock- ,^1116 Centre, in the vernacular of the streei, "brought home llie bacon." The Hcore was 37 to 30. It was a great game.
After the first period the score stood 18 to 17 In favor of the llempsiead joys, and they were still playing a .emarkably fast gaire. When the first twelve niinuies of play were o'er he advautat-e had been gained by the ilockville Centre, five, aud tne score >oard showed 2(i for the \isilois rnd .'1 for St. Georga.
It was at this juncture that "'Scls- .^or" Smith, who plays at right for- vard for the Hemp.slead team, in a burst of speed, tossed a clever basket from the center of the court and even¬ ed up the score. It was d tense ii:o- ment for the bl.g audience.
There wa.s a whirlwind brewinr on the Rockville Centre side of the court during all of this excitement. It sv ept across Ihe gym with Smlolck as he dribbled the ball to a place of van¬ tage under the Sl. Oeorge basKec and dropped It in. Other goals followed In quick succession. Kay Kennedy was a marvel for speed and dcfpn.=ie, and Whitehead aud •'I'iily" Raynor flivided honors
