' Tiie llemp'Ur-ad Town Boaid i.e;;ln nlug on Ai»rll « will hold its meetings on Tnetdays, depariing from a cuslon. which has been following for more than twenty years. The meellngs have heretofore been held on Mon- daya. A reaolutlon changing the meet¬ ing day was passed on March 16. The last of tbe Monday meetings was held yesterday.
hi the absence of Supervisor Hiram R. Smith, Justice of the Peace Ed¬ ward T. Neu was chosen as chairman of the meeting. In a communication to the board County Superintendent of Highways William Seaman, ex¬ plained that a bridge over a brook on Jerusalem avenue, which was the sub¬ ject of a complaint from the State authorities a week ago, had been thor¬ oughly examined and found in a dan¬ gerous condition. The latter recom¬ mended that the bridge be rebuilt at a cost of 1800, and that the span be increased to eight feet from five feet. Tbe town authorilies appropriated 1400 for repairs to this bridge, upon the recommendation of Seaman and Town Superintendent of Highways Robert Brower, a week ago and ue- clined yesterday to reclnd their action. They authorized Brower, however, to proceed to rebuild the bridge, and when the appropriation is consumed the matter will be considered further. Had it not been for the fact that a newspaper man was made the butt of a practical joke in which a loaded butt figured, the meeting of the Town Fa¬ thers would have lagged woefully, i ne fact that cigars were in evidence caused no little e.xcitement. Former Justice Wallace, who Is said to have taken several degrees In the T. W. Aasociation, Limited, of Rockville Cen¬ tre, was responsible for this unusual condition. He passed cigars—thert were four—about among the newspa¬ per men at the meeUng. The fact that It was tbe Judge who thus generously offered the banded Habanas, was suf¬ ficient to arouse the suspicions of his >(rlends. Several declined in good grace.
It was a small man who accepted the last and largest of the smokes. He lit and fuffed vigorously about tbe room at the same lime as much con¬ cerned with the generosity of his fel¬ low journalist as with any of the im¬ portant matters before the town trus¬ tees. Then the durn thing exploded, it did, and everybody laughed—except the small man who had been smoking IL The joke was appreciated, although it was a Utile in advance.
Several oyster and clam planting li¬ censes were granted and the board adjourned. '

Frankfurter, Sauerkraut and Hum¬ or With Birch Beer—Think of it
A "Birch Beer Social" erroneously designated as a Dutch Supper was giv¬ en by Fraternal Council, R. A. just a week ago tonighUiii Fraternity Hall. Frankfurters and sauerkraut v, ere served in large (luaiilities, the lloor was covered witli sawdust, the twenty waiters wore big false noses, there were Dutch doings and Dutch coffee was served. But there was a total absence of "suds."
To say that the absence was not felt would be to stretch the truth. To be sure no one mentioned it, so numerous and varied were the other aimise- inents.
It was Regents Night at the Lodge. The artistic invitations were artistical¬ ly made, as was the iiighly plea.sing program. There were cabaret tubles about the hall and the walls were hung with pictured advertisements for Gunning Whiskey, John Brown Beer, etc. The enlhusiastic gathering to a man smoked clay pipe."? and Pitsburg stogies.
In the entertainment Spiegel's Ju¬ venile butch Orchestra rendered pop¬ ular and unpopular tune.s and "Ed." Spiegel sang a celebrated Dutch ditty entitled "Est Bas Necht Ein Garten Hiis'.'" wliich is said to mean some¬ thing about ce.lehrities. Henry J. Raymore, spoke-and sang and H. S. Covert' of Seattle. Wash., told some original stories and whistled to the aimi.sement of every body.
IA the end of the excitment when the birch beer was mostly goue, John D. Gunning presented silver watches lo J. S. Sumner, Paul Anderson, S. P. Shea, II. A. Bacon and Fred Peterson as prizes in a recent competition for menibers. Albin N. Jolin.son received two watches, one for his cood wife.
To Reside in Rockville Centre .Mr; itnd .Mrs. Charles Southerland, of Central Park West, New York City, win occupy their new home on Lenox Road, Rockville Centre, permanently about .\pril 15.
Miss Emma Bedell i l'"uiieral services over die reiiiaiii.- ot Miss Emilia Bedell, daufchler of Mr and Mrs. Jordan Bedell of Bakl-.vin. i who died Thursday, weie held Sunday afternoon at her late home on Central avenue, the Rev. F. W. V.irney of the First M. P. Cliurch, Lynbrook, olli' iat- ing. Miss Bedell was 30 years of age and had been in i.rior health almost since childhood. Her remains were taken lo (ireenfiold Ceiietery, Ile'iip- stead for interment.
Bang off for Washington F. St. John Bang of East Rockaway will leave toinorrow for Washington, D. C, on a hurried trip to the Capital where he will visit (UiiiKressman L<i- Ihrop Brown. His departure is con¬ sidered signjiicant from a political standpoint.
