Prohalily never since the preferen¬ tial primary became a factor in poli¬ tico has it been advanced to popular teat In no democratic a way. The candidates are numerou.'i; the con¬ tests for the several nominations proml.ses to be kjien, and a friendly apirlt of party rivalry characterize> the PArly oampaigms.

The cltizen.s of the Town are tak ng a;n unusual interest in the candi dacy of Charles W. Smith of Bell more for Town Assessor. We print a copy of a communication sent to us hy one of our readers: To the Editor of the Nassau Post:
Who are they going to select at the primaries to run on the Re¬ publican ticket for Town Assessor? The office is a vitally important one. There ia one man in Ute pre¬ ferential race, whom I know to be sQund, steady and dependable, a man who can win, Charles W. Smith of Bellmore. i
He has been an assessor and of tho calibre sufficient to iiold the position of chairman of the rv>ard of Assessors. He was born and brought up In tlie eastern section of the Town and has ever been a Republican; a County Committee¬ man for eight years.
He believes in e<iuUable assess¬ ment; In strict f&iraess to every¬ body In every way; and in courtesy to all.
He knows the business. He has been a carpenter, a bwlld<&c; a con¬ tractor, and a master mechanic. He knows the comparative value of real estate in every section of the Town.
Smith I believe to be honest, conscientious, folr-minded and sin cere. The interests of the taxpay¬ ers are foremost In his mind. If nominated,' he will materlall) strengthen the tlclcet and win his race.
I trust Nil win support him at tbe primariee.

HIRAM R. SMITH, HIS WORK AND
ADMINISTRATION HEARTILY
APPROVED
No greater tribute could be paid to Supervisor Hiram R. Smith and his past administration than the fac't that there is no opposition to hia nomination at the preferential prima¬ ries. From the length and breadth of the Town comes the unanimous ap proval of his work. In but few in¬ stances of the Town's hlatory has an | administrator Inspired greater confl-' dence or has he been more reliable' nnd stable. ,
Hie administration has been an eventful one. When he accepted the, nominotlon two years ago he realizeu the responsibilities of the oflDce and he has labored diligently to solve, practically, the problems which neces- ¦•larily faced him.
With the harmony now prevailing in the entire p^rty, the intecest which the enrolled voters have taken In the prlmari«s, and with Mr. Smith St tbe head of the ticket, nothing but suc¬ cess can crown the efforts, on April 6th, ...
